People still still buy them and they know it. EVs in general are still seen as a status symbol for many

Porsche these days is exhibiting even more automotive hubris than normal. While they may indeed be able to command higher prices for electric vehicles in the short term, at some point even loyal Porschephiles may come to the conclusion the value proposition is out of whack when everyone is essentially offering the same technology. If all a person needs is a quick, comfortable, 3-row electric SUV, over the next few years numerous manufacturers will be doing a bang-up job of providing that vehicle at a lower price point than Porsche.

Yup, it's been a while since their engines (and transmissions) have been truly 'high-end'. There is a major difference between their small subset of GT cars and the regular versions, no matter how many options you add, whether you spec 4WD, or how wide the bodywork is or how tall the wheels. The product line as a whole continues to be priced as idealized mechanical 'perfection', when clearly it's not.

Once EVs take over, will be a tough sell for Porsche (and Ferrari, and others) - I can't yet fathom the cachet of their 'better' electric motor design to justify the premium pricing. I may well be wrong, guess we'll see. It's also quite possible that nobody cares, and the majority will be happy with the status and the silhouette. Lots of turbocharged Fcars running round too, so what do I know.

Cheers

Matt

Well many people are delusional. As for an EV, why would I buy one?

One of the contractors who did some work at my cabin came by this morning with his brand new 2023 F150 Lightning Lariat.
He had to wait a while for it and the cost is $112,000 dollars !
Picked it up last night , you can smell the brand new leather from outside …
Anyhow , he writes it off with his business , but he told me the range is 500 Kms and it has more torque than the Diesel F250 he traded in
and he mentioned a full recharge on the truck is less than $15.00 dollars.

Not for me though … the only rechargeable EV’s i use are my collection of Dewalt 20V tools !
Oh yeah , it also has a frunk, just like my 89 911

Cheers
Phil

And what was the price difference between it and a gas powered vehicle?

And what a lot of these EV users fail to realize is that I get to drive something like a Toyota Camry for 10 years for free based on the cost difference from it to a Tesla 3. Yet that Tesla owner still has to pay to charge it in those same 10 years. I guess math is not an EV owner's strong point.

the EV I want should use about 28KWh/100km if I go 120kph.... My hydro rate at home is ~10c/kwh (may be less as I'll charge overnight)... so it'll cost $2.80/100km, Range is somewhere around 300-350km I estimate....

Sigh. Range won't be 500 kms in any type of cold weather. Or if he's towing something. But hey never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Teslas are king for range and acceleration. Everyone else playing catch up

Interesting to see how that works out for him... in terms of recharging.. EV's make sense to me if you are driving somewhere and back and recharging at night time while it sits in the garage. For a contractor he's always driving around, what will he do when he's low on charge during the day. Still not that many locations to charge and the wait time makes it a PIA.

Who is actually keeping a car here for 10 years though?

My EV literally costs pennies to operate Vs it’s gas equal which is also in my driveway. While I do charge at home 98% of the time or my wife does at work (same place that wildcat works at) the road trip DCFC network is pretty good in Quebec for that and eastern Ontario. It’s pretty spotty in the USA as EA stalls are generally broken.

The nice part about that F150 EV is it supports 150kwh charging so would charge reasonably fast. Even at home on a basic L2 40amp unit… some of home centres and supply stores have started installing L2 units or 50kwh DCFC units for tradesmen to charge
