I just go to a local 'mom and pop' ski shop in Kitchener....
happy with the service, although they do a lot of consignment kids stuff...
My 17 year old started skiing around 4-5 yrs old. Bought a pair of skis for her for about $50, used them for about 10 days, handed them down to my 15 yr old, and he used them for about 10 days, then sold them back for $30...
My kids are now in adult equipment, so it's buy them their 1st set of mid range adult gear, and then any stuff they buy is on their own dime....
I used to ski alot, was on the local ski patrol, so I had some nice stuff then, used them for about 100 days over a few years, then rented stuff when out west.
About 5 yrs ago, I got a mid range pair of skis for my mid 40 knees that I'm happy with.... I don't need anything "advanced" any more.... did about 100-120 runs ( 8(?) mornings) at blue last year, as well as 20 runs at Jay Peak (marginal Xmas skiing)....

FYI - Lessons and race program registration opened today at Blue Mountain.
Also, I just read on Mount St Luis's website that they are encouraging skiiers to come fully dressed and use their cars as a base. No lockers or bags allowed in the chalet this year. I assume most other hills will be doing the same. I never ski there, was checking for a friend.

Oh end for gear I usually go to corbets for anything that needs to be fitted, like new boots for the kids. But if you know your sizes these guys are the best: https://www.skiessentials.com/
They have an awesome review system and the sales people are super helpfully. When I was buying my Blizzard Rustlers I spent nearly 30 mins talking to them about my options, they were more helpful than any brick and mortar store.

With lodges limited access, is there going to be rentals? And who will want to line up with the unwashed? And who wants to use ikie equipment?
I’m all over new old stock. Now is the time to look 👀. I have had good luck at the large Sports stores, that you don’t consider to be ski stores.
My kids teach, and they are huge, like 6’2”+. I found a set of Volkl 177 all mountain with binding for $226 incl tax. That is two weekends rental$.
I’ll check my used inventory. I’m sure I have a few sets of boots, maybe some skis 🎿.

I have always encouraged parents to buy kid equipment. Small kid? Who’s going to line up for 40 min to maybe hit the hill for an hour. Then line up to return the stuff.

If your buying for kids aim for somewhere with a 1/2 back program, we could get 2 years out of skis and boards but would consider ourselves lucky to get a year out of boots. Sign of the Skier is our first stop, they have fantastic fitter, and early in the season they sell off the 1/2 back returns. SportChek are good for pricing but sizes are hit and miss and no more 1/2 back program. Like most with growing kids I've got a pair of Solomon Lux 120's and a K2 Kandi 110 board headed for Kijiji.

The owner of Mt. St. Louis was on the radio today. I just caught the end of the interview. He did say changing in your vehicle, online ticket sales only in limited quantities. Priority given to pass holders.

The new addition along with the new RDIF and online ticketing will certainly help, the only thing not mentioned is the seasonal locker room, at this point I'm assuming it will be the standard spacing, masks, and a max capacity, guess we'll know soon enough.

Someone I know is still waiting to get their gear out of the locker they had last season when they shut down.

I did see that regarding the day use lockers in the main chalet, its the seasonal lockers there's no mention of. They are located in the lower level of the ski school building on the south side of the chalet and require a key fob to enter, its a great setup, full sized lockers for all your gear, benches, bathrooms and rarely more than a hand-full of people. Our cottage is 20 min away so with convenience of having your gear at the hill and a quiet place the get ready makes for a chill day on the hill.
I think it was July by the time we finally cleared the locker for the season with the covid shutdown.
