So be it. Could be worse.

I figure it's a $ bank. Buy the right stuff and it'll hold its value if not increase.

F me, I never will understand the attraction to ANY watch. Sounds like the Rolex owners buy into the same BS as the Harley riders. Heritage, image, a ****-o-metre, etc. Any phone now days will do a better job at time keeping than these watches. They are the steam engine of the watch world.

My 996 went up in value even though it has been sitting with the engine out for the last 4.5 years.

It's jewelry, discretionary and not solely about function. Yes a phone is more precise.I have a few watches from my younger years, nothing fancy but I keep them and use them occasionally. I got a nice watch last year. I simply like the design and function. Not sure if it enlarged my member, but you never know! I try not to show it to people, the watch or the member.

I think steam engines are cool.

Not everybody has an interest in watches and that's cool too. Look at all the people who rely on others for the time, this is dwindling with most people having a phone now.

You're kidding right? Now add in the parts and hours of labour that you will have in it. I'm sure that you're still deep under water dollar wise. Anyway silly comparison but my watches have never been in the shop and are way up in value. Hopefully your 996 will net out well for you but I highly doubt it in this lifetime.

The time spent on it will give me the knowledge how to fix these things. It's easy to throw money at a mechanic to fix your car. Doing it yourself is another story. I won't be upside down even though this is the second time the engine had to come out (my fault for taking it to the drag strip with a failed radiator fan). Bought the car for $5K and total cost to fix it twice will be around $5K.

You've got the talent and time. For most of us our cars are very enjoyable money pits, but you only live once!

[QUOTE=cstyles;15822593]I sold a few pieces right before the madness. Sold my BLNR for $10,500 in January of this year lol... Left some money on the table with that one.

I enjoy my BLNR more than ever. Three years ago I got almost a 13% discount off list.. Now they are impossible to get and even if you're really lucky it would be with Jubilee bracelet only. What do you think a BLNR would be worth on the used market today?

If you can get the right deal at the right time on the right model of Rolex it will appreciate in value. That appeals to alot of people! Very few things you can use and enjoy will do that.

I paid $10,200 CAD OTD for my brand new BLNR on Oyster in Oct 2015 and prices are still going, up, up, up! You won’t get that type of appreciation in value from a Harley or Porsche......other than a GT car or the odd 996 mentioned on here

What goes up must come down. It's going to suck for the guys stuck holding the bag, but buying into the hype is entirely their fault.

LOL not happening, this is the new norm. I own a few pieces and don't buy watches as investments, I buy them because I like them. It's all the idiots speculating that are causing the so called shortage on popular models.

We are talking watches. Don’t buy them to appreciate. Buy them to enjoy and assume you will never see the money you spent on them again.

But it would appear Rolexes do drop less than many other watches.

I bought a used Omega Speedmaster (Moonwatch) about 10 years ago and it's more or less doubled in retail value. I don't really care about the appreciation since I'm not about to sell it.
