No. I cooled off on the search. Once I reached out to the owner of an AD, through a referral here, I got it in a month. I stayed on him - checking in now and again.

Yorkdale wanted me to pay 100% up front then wait. Bloor St took my name and number and said when they get one, they call everyone and the first to arrive gets it. They haven’t called yet.

I bought it from Raffi in Cambridge. He and I had a good chat when I first called him. He was honest and told me that the watch is in such demand that he has to offer it to past clients who want it first, but told me to keep in touch.

I drove down first thing, bought the watch and took offer back to the city as I had a crazy busy day. Wish I had time to browse around.

Despite past purchase history I'm not having much luck with my local AD for stainless steel professional pieces.
Anybody have a contact for an AD in Southern Ontario/Montreal for any of the following? I'm in the market for a few as some will be corporate gifts.
No huge rush but would like before 2030.
  • SS SkyDweller Blue Dial
  • SS Daytona White Dial
  • SS GMT Pepsi
  • SS SeaDweller James Cameron Blue/Black dial
  • 2 Tone GMT RootBeer
  • SS Sub Date
  • SS Explorer I
  • Gold Oysterflex Daytona

out of that list DSSD JC, Root Beer, Sub-C, Explorer and gold Daytona should be doable. For the rest forget about it unless you go grey dealer. I’m surprised your AD can’t help you with those that I listed. My go to place is Damianis.

You'd think most of that stuff would be reasonably available. I don't mind waiting.
For the harder to acquire pieces I don't mind waiting a few years even.

Ladies watches.

Any of you buy watches for your wife's? I am looking for something for someone for Mother's day....

Unfortunately, someone I know lost a TAG recently... (I think the pin may have broken and it fell off wrist unnoticed in the winter)... It has not reappeared, and we have looked in all the usual spots...

Ideally $500cdn.... max would be $1000.....

IF you can find these, grey market on the first three I would say are $20-25k and the last one is about $30k. Subs are routinely $10-12k, Deep Sea would be $18-20k I would think. Explorer 1 is about $8k.
Are they worth it? That would be up to you to decide.

They are about as much of a status thing as a Porsche...and perhaps a Porsche is more of a status thing as they are more easily identified by the masses.

status aside....

how reliable is an automatic movement vs quartz?

how long have you owned an automtitc, and how much have you had to service it and cost? I'm looking at TAG quartz and possibly Tudor automatic for wife.

with respect to quartz watches
I have changed the battery is my watch myself with one of those case wrenches..., batteries typically cost less than $5, and I have lubed the o rings with silicone grease.... I have pressure tested to 0.5bar
