So just on that, has anyone had dialogue with Playday about how BB will be lined up? If it is part of the RSG sessions or is it entered in the main all-comers group? Some of you have had two cars along under one (driver) entry before so it must be possible to get an extra sticker for the screen at no extra entry cost for the car. Downside of running with the RSG group is you miss a session driving your Porsche.

I sent the following before Saturday and received a good reply.

Hi Gary

The Rennsport Gruppe have bought a 2kcup beater. There are 13 in the Gruppe
involved.

If we book in as a single car with multiple drivers can you be flexible on
the number of drivers attached to the car? It will only be one car
circulating. I think we will often book our normal runs in RSG and split
the cost Of a normal group as well.

Cheers
John

Hi John, yes that's Ok, you should get 6 runs per entry so if it runs in
your Group & 1 other that's 12 7 it will give it a session to cool down.
Please get everyone to complete an Indemnity for it though, ,you can get 4
drivers on each form if you change Passenge rsegments to Driver.
Please make sure its all done before bringing the form to documentation to
keep things tidy.
Cheers
Tony

I am still eager for John and co to report back on Karting day. The racing experience per $ is still the best in my mind. close high intensity racing with lots of corners and decisions packed into a 35- 40 sec lap. and then also run BB on the side for fun

Someone has already said, and I agree with it, running 12 sessions in one day is a heck of a beating. If you want to retain the Porsche driving as well, do what we did yesterday I.e. Book a normal slot and divide costs by session runners. 6 sessions = $18 each and about the same for gas. So each run is $36. Not sure how long the consumables will last. I would hope everyone gets a run before we need to ask for another call on funds.

No problem - it will be around for awhile. Attention has moved to Herman now. Following Dave driving him I noticed what Michael pointed out in March i.e. The brake light is going on at random points. I think it's a lack of pressure on the brake switch, which means I have to adjust that. Getting confirmation first before I make a stuff up

I think 6 sessions for BB on 19th is more than enough. 12 sessions in a day for any car is hard, let alone a $1800 one. Im happy to miss a Porsche session for a BB session, but put me to the back of the que because my prime focus is the 993 having not returned to HD since my maiden rookie outing 18 months back.

Graeme, I forgot you had the 996.1 GT3. Who has that now?

John isn't that your secret mod to unsettle cars behind you on the track? ;)

Didn't seem to work on Doug :( end fix was free , a cut down tyre valve cap epoxied to the end of the switch. I resisted the temptation to wire the brake lights to the headlight washer.

Macca I lost track of who owns it after 2 succeeding owners beyond me

Congratulations on resisting the dark side John. Was starting to worry that Black Beauty corrupts all who drive her, with those seductive dummy brake lights and such. Luckily I'm yet to fall under her spell, or there might have been a quick call to Contis for a 'dump on demand' coolant mod while they're in there pinning and liquid metalling my fittings. :roflmao: Seriously though, am looking forward to nixing her habit of christening every track (plus the Southern Motorway for good measure).

Paul's 'what's wrong with this picture' workshop pic saw me drop in to Contis to give them a nudge on Friday and I should have her back soon. Ron's 997T was there, parked up and awaiting pick up after having had the same thing done, so they'll be well practiced.

Jake, when my first coolant fitting blew they told me it was very rare too, but I'd think that opinion would be starting to shift now.

Walter, is your car a manual or tip? When the drop links were installed I asked Izzy to check my mounts because I thought the NVH was very different to the Turbo 3.6. He couldn't find anything definitive but said he would compare that when fixing your car.

Macca 07-06-2014 09:03 PM

I think we have discussed this before but it's often impossible to determine if amount is deformed till you take it out and compare to a new one. IMO the techs rarely have a clue unless it's visibly very distorted. Like the water pipe pinning we are pioneering their experience in this small market as the cars get older and folk like the RSG group push the cars harder. I've been through this with the 993. If you didn't use the forums to identify preventative maintenance and left it to the tech only you'd never do much more than belts plugs and filters. It takes big shops in UK/USA and enthusiast customers to know what real preventative measures are with these cars which is why a nz advertised 911 says always serviced means nothing to me to be honest....

Tip. Likewise asked them to check my motor and tranny mounts while in there, as I harbour similar suspicions.

I have already done the tranny mount. It was well worn. I now have 167,000 km so it's reasonable to suspect they've had a good amount of wear as well.

FYI The Turbo 3.6 has done 105,000km , is 21 years old and is butter smooth.
