Back in the day. As stated I don't know the proper adjustment for inflation.
By the way, the car was a McLaren m8d, two years previous Denny Hulme won the series in that car so it wasn't an also ran.
Even Mclaren didn't use transporters- the cars were transported to the race on one ton ramp back trucks.
2 ramp back trucks and the spares in a 24 foot box truck they they rented for the season.

You can go club racing for a lot cheaper than $75k . Right now there's a podium winning Spec Boxster for sale for under $30k, replace your daily driver with a used truck, buy a used trailer, get your license in a season or 2 doing your regular DEs with the car. See it's not too hard to start sliding down the mountain
