Solo DL - what data will an 09 Cayman put out of OBDII??
I'm curious what the Solo DL will pull out of the OBDII channels of my 2009 Cayman S PDK. Is steering angle in there? Brake PSI? Is there a list somewhere of what channels can be monitored? Seems like it would be a pretty sweet setup for my street car on the track without a big investment.
Did some digging, found this - http://www.m-world.us/aim_solo_dl_gp...ration_solo_dl
It does list 13 channels as available via OBD (22 wired directly to the ECU!), still not sure what they all are. It just says "While a Direct ECU connection offers more channels, PnP OBD2 already contains the most important channels for data analysis - speed, throttle, brake pressure, steering. Other channels are nice to have but not important. Note: Direct ECU is NOT PnP."

I still think CAN (2-wire connection) is your best bet, Gary, but here is the sheet for the S and R Mk2 cars: http://www.aim-sportline.com/downloa...ns_105_eng.pdf
It's the deal to be able to use many of the in-vehicle sensors with this $699 device to get really good info, and more than that, to put it up on the video real-time with a SmartyCam.
The easiest place to find gains are the areas you can see that you've missed on, in your review... Resolves gearing questions, brake attack, amplitude and release, steering rate and amplitude and, most importantly, RIGHT foot rate and progression!

Thanks Peter, here we go, $699 turning into $1699 (w/SCam)!!! I saw (briefly) the pin out of the ECU plug, is it really just a matter of tapping into two wires? (I finally looked deeper into Matt's link and see a channel listing, still not sure what the 22 are in the Cayman S though.)

Mk1 uses GT3/Bosch (channels listed BOSCH below) and Mk2 (your car) uses Siemens (listed SM below). The early cars showed only total steering angle, the later cars showed left and right.
There are more, but here is a comparison of relevant (but not all available) channels for each. Mk1 (2006-2008) on top, Mk 2 (2009-2012) on bottom. Both S models.

Gary, you really ought to make the CAN connection for your SoloDL, as ProCoach advises. I can't recall exactly which channels you do/don't get connecting it via OBDII. But having done this myself, I was disappointed with what I was missing. The Siemens ECU in your car provides so much data via CAN. It's really worth the effort to access and use it.

CAN it will be, the connection protocol looks extremely easy and the data borders on F1 telemetry@! I'm very impressed, but I come from the dark ages where I was using a string potentiometer on my steering rod (78 SC) to see steering angle!
Thank you Peter, going to have to get my "Making sense of squiggly lines" book back out! Car needs an LSD bad IMHO (or I could just suck less), but data is so nice to see..
