Most of the bigger races have records that have been set in the last few years.
Some of the really old records are from tracks that have a different configuration currently being used.
I really think cheating is much less prevalent in E class. E class gets pulled and checked all the time at the races.
There is a lot more cheating or "bending the rules" going on in the upper letter classes,GTB, and GTC.
It's racing, you are always going to have guys/girls bending the rules.
Oh....never trust anything with a turbo

You haven't lived until you and you friend/closest competitor are in adjoining bays and after Walt's done ripping into both motors, hands you your parts and says "ok, you can reassemble your cars now".... "some E guys wondered why you both were beating them". We were in D at the time of course.

Prepared cars are allowed certain modifications beyond the standard Stock ruleset (they're outlined in the CCR), but they move the car up one (or two if we're talking substituting carbs for CIS). From D to E, for example. A prepared car must run at the same weight as it would in its "native" class.
Those modifications allowances include brakes, fender flaring, wing, ring & pinion, etc ... But when we're talking about D cars in E, none of those changes make the car any faster in practice. Or at least not fast enough to overcome the 30whp power decifict (180hp v. 207hp stock). IMHO.
Does it really matter? The car you have and can race today is better than waiting for that perfect car tomorrow. In my case I was turning my track rat into a racecar and would have had to run in GT (fiberglass flares, built 3.2) or NASA GTS - but then I came across this car and it was ready to race after just an oil change ...
If I develop as a driver to the point that my car is holding me back perhaps I'll revisit my current situation. But for now I have a ton of fun, and I've found plenty of cars to race against.

There are slow drivers in fast cars and fast drivers in slow cars.
But, a fast driver can always buy a fast car if he wants it badly enough.

According to the seller my car was pre-ripped apart a few times in the past and people at tech seemed to know the car
I've just been breaking it, driving bad and failing to make pit stops, so no proper results to create any work..

Right after the finish line, downshift into 1st, and drop the clutch...
Leave the motor... take the Cannoli...

My car is bone stock. Your car on the other hand comes with a bit of a "reputation"... Just sayin'
So if they open your car up to inspect it they expect you to put it back together?

Don't worry, you will get your chance and sometimes you will shake your head. Another story (I gots lots). Glen enduro a couple years back. Running first in Class, come up out of T9 behind Uli's E car (944 S2 I believe). He spins and my only recourse was to spin it myself to not T-Bone him, car not exactly well balanced there.. No hit, but I somehow threw my fan belt so race was over and I know i'm DQ'd. Come in, they send me to Tech!! Short video for fun..
