I think they're going to come fast and thick, early on.

Love the "auto software update" button on the top right side.

Is it now OK to uninstall the "dev" version of Race Studio 3 that I received when I purchased my SmartyCam HD GP?

I thinkk you should definitely do that, Toby.

I did that before I installed 3.03.08. I think I had 2.99 (RS3 beta that showed up on the AiM site for a brief MOMENT.

SO many changes...

One other question....

Do the developers want copies of the dump files when RS3 terminates abnormally? Haven't checked and I don't recall RS3 asking if I wanted to capture dump files, but thought I would ask. Have had RS3 (the latest version) terminate abnormally on a Configuration save action a few times. One failure was after importing an MXL2 config (.zconfig file) created under the prior release. Second term came when trying to save my SCHD GP config after connecting it and downloading the config on the device (no errors reported on import).

I would guess they do. As there is still lots of development and feature add going on, I'm sure any help in finding problems would be appreciated.

I've had a number of crashes doing some different things in RS3.

How does the new hardware and software compare to what you get with MoTeC?

Known issue, Toby. They state that config files made under unreleased betas (and the one they had on the website was technically unreleased because they pulled it within 48 hours) are not compatible with the new official releases RS3.03.08 and RS3.03.09.

THere have been so many updates to SM2 I can see how you might have an issue. Again, known (because Roger and I have personally sent in reports since 8/14.)

The number one issue with both MoTeC and AiM is mismatched releases of f/w and s/w.

Please join the Google group and continue to report.

Scott

Too early to tell, just got first batch of dashes yesterday. It will take a little time to install and test things like video sync etc.

Scott, having been a dealer for both for some time, I can say that there is a more significant difference in the software than the hardware (now) than there used to be. Base specs and prices:

MXL2 (37-pin Motorsport connector with included loom, backlit monochromatic, 4 analog inputs, one wheel speed input, CAN and serial inputs, one CAN output, GPS included, 32 GB logging, USB bulkhead fitting download included) $1999, optional 22-pin expansion harness $355. Eight analog channels, two CAN inputs, four wheel speeds

C125 (34-pin Motorsport connector, color TFT, no analog or temp inputs, no wheel speed sensors, optional CAN and serial inputs, two CAN outputs, GPS-10 optional, 120 MB logging memory optional, primary wiring loom optional, secondary I/O loom optional, push buttons optional) $2520, $3537 with GPS, button kit, CAN (OBD-II) input and 120 MB logging memory. $5560 with Pro Logging enabled (allows video sync), accessory I/O loom for 6 analog inputs, 2 temp inputs. etc.

MXG (37-pin Motorsport connector with included loom, color TFT, 4-analog inputs, one wheel speed sensor input, CAN and serial inputs, one CAN output. GPS included, 32 GB logging, USB bulkhead download included) $2599, optional 22-oin expansion harnees, $355, eight analog channels, two CAN inputs, four wheel speeds.

C185 (79-pin Motorsport connector, color TFT, no analog or temp inputs, no wheel speed sensors, 4 CAN and 2 serial inputs, two CAN outputs, GPS-10 optional, button kit optional, 250 MB logging standard, I/O harness optional) $5390, all other options extra.

Standard MoTeC software is more configurable and powerful than RS3, but requires significant knowledge to set up without errors. Each track (venue) must be set up. No preloaded track coordinates (but a database exists). No integrated video solution exists other than adding Pro Logging ($852) and MoTeC's VCS-HD system ($3100).

Standard RS3 software is more than adequate for 95% of club and entry level pro racers. All tracks and GPS coordinates pre-loaded, integrated data solution exists within the free software. Hardware required is SC HD ($999).

In a nutshelll.

Big Nut... I believe Motec ADL 3 can pick a track from a database similar to AIM, but for tons more money. ADL 2 needs to have GPS coordinates manually loaded.

Video integration can be done with ADL 2 and ADL 3 Pro logging if you use the Motec Video Sync Module (VSM) $250 and a Smarty Camera (with a microphone jack). I am hopeful that RS 3 will video sync

Jerry, any use of VSM requires both pro logging plus an ecu bridge, $1100 to $2100, plus camera.

Yes.

RS3 uses a new programming language, but incorporates (and installs as part of RS3) a new release of RS2 that is backwards compatible (RS2.54.02H). Ultimately, all programs (GPS Manager, SmartyManager2, RS2H, RS3 and RSA) will all be under the RS3 installer package (100 MB now).

Just to add to what Jerry said, the MoTeC SDL3 had been discontinued some time ago, the ADL3 is now listed as obsolete and the CDL3 is limited to stock on hand. The new C-dashes are all that are current.

It is possible to manually sync any video (my preference is AiM SmartyCam HD video) with MoTeC files as long as Pro Logging is enabled on the dash logger that recorded the files.
