i just read a subsequent post that the 69 driver went to the hospital.
anyway, i just hope he's ok and isnt hurt too badly. i emailed him to see if he's ok, and if i hear anything, ill let you guys know.
he's a solid guy who is , when i'm around him, always respectful.
im just hoping he's ok.

333. There is nothing "innocuous" about Road Atlanta and T12 is especially bad ***. Very fast, steep downhill. Those car were all going very fast when they hit the walls.

I was there. Very unfortunate. A number of very very valuable, beautiful cars were damaged. Thankfully all drivers survived.

Sad to see. Track was mostly dry at the time. Some moisture off line and at edge of track (curbing/paint). First car was stopped maybe 100ft past flag stand. The blue GT car was pitted across from me. Beautiful car with heavy damage. Driver looked shaken up but ok.

Michael I'm going to be out there at some point. It won't be early if it is raining. I will look for you or call if I can't find your pit.

I was the poll sitter and was just ahead of the wreck. Seemed like 69 spun the tires and hooked to the right at the green flag. Saw the mess happening in my rear view. Don't believe anyone was hurt but a lot of cars damaged. The track was still very cold and damp in spots.

FWIW, #69 used to race an F class Boxster. He was fast and always courteous. I'm glad everyone is OK.

How many laps behind the pace car were given? I know it was pretty cold and damp yday.
The extra lap can really help get tire temps up and gauge traction.

^^THIS^^ is what happened. The left side loaded tires of the 69 car crossed a dark, moisture laden strip at the moment the green flag was shown (while the front row was STILL in corner 12?!?!).

Throttle trace of 69 shows no binary motion, but was squeezed and when the left rear hit the strip, game over. Very disappointing, but no asshattery (except for the assault afterwards) and both Cory and Andrew drove well all weekend.

And he's faster and more courteous now than he used to be. Just unfortunate.

DING! DING! DING! We've got a winner!

Single pace lap, ambient temp mid-40's, track damp in spots clearly seen on a variety of standard definition video, let alone hi-def. None of the drivers had YET approached the flag stand until the green was shown. Both Cory and Andrew were aggressive in warming their tires behind the slow pace car.

IMO, two pace laps might have helped avoid this issue.

Again, sad that it happened, but this was not the same issue as the Sebring race start... I watched them both...
