Yes, that's clearly what he meant.........,not.

I think he, like many is just tired of the excoriation and vilification directed at "cup car drivers".

Well, I guess that I too am a member of the "My only bad wreck was at R/Atl" club.
I fell victim to a numbnut that was engulfed in red mist and attempted to take the whole field by driving down the grass at the start. In the Friday Fun Race! Car turned hard right and I T-boned him. Destroyed my car and I had to have a surgical repair to my shoulder.
Took a year to fix the car, I returned to R/Atl and the motor blew!
Love that place, could've happened anywhere though.

Well maybe they should stop driving into walls and each other and stuff

I kid of course! Even those of us you cup guys refer to as unwashed masses and rabble in cars you wouldn't bother even washing much less racing have accidents from time to time.

There are way more people that move up to cup cars from Stock, Spec or less quick GT classes than rank novices. Few people start out in the most powerful cars.

Perhaps.

But that is NOT what he actually SAID.

Many folks would do well to have slightly thicker skins...

You guys missed my first racecar clearly. 914 rust bucket racing...got black flagged at my first race for no brake lights...worked very hard to get them working...couldn't , so pulled taillights off the farm trailer I used to haul it and sheet metal screwed them to car!

Smartass 911 owner comes by in his pretty 911 and taunts me with his friends after seeing them, my farm trailer, my auction bought from the city sanitation department pickup tow vehicle.... He says " nice taillights"... Laughing loudly with his buddies as they go by.

End of race and I pulled up to his camp in rust bucket and asked him how he liked the taillights...

Wasn't as funny for him then for some reason.

We all start somewhere, I started at the very bottom.

I've learned three things from this thread:
1. I don't ever want to 'graduate' to a cup car.
2. I don't want to drive RA.
3. The "gentleman" component of PCA racing apparently no longer exists.

Hmmm...

1) I do! I have driven them & love them! And as Glen says, generally their drivers are very good.

2) You are missing out. one of my Top 3 favorite all time US tracks.

3) Disagree 100%

Or you could do what I once did when I tested a Cup Car (that I couldn't afford):
Start from the pit lane!

1. Well, maybe I will.
2. I'll likely drive it. Who am I kidding? I felt that way about Mosport and then loved it.
3. If I cause an accident and someone attacks me and then I get a public trial with a majority guilty verdict on RL,....well, then I'm skeptical.

Um...who cares? Seriously...all that matters is what the Stewards think, not what folks here think.

Hear, hear! Great story and yes, many of us did... How many would admit to starting in a Fiat 850? Heck, that's about all I have in common with Dorsey Schroeder!

Dave, this is why it's important not to take these threads too seriously.

I can see you graduating to one of these extraordinary cars some day. You'd do it proud with the care, consideration and study you've already shown in every car you've taken on track.

Road Atlanta is a challenging track. Even the best have less of a margin for error here than most other places, but that's not reason not to come. It was my first race track that wasn't a roval! When Panoz built the walls to keep the pros out of the spectator areas, it got a lot more unforgiving. Tread gently until you learn it and don't look where you don't want to go!

I disagree completely on the last point. Just like guys here joke about the F-car club (where I started), I thought PCA Club Racing was an insular bunch of snobs and other unprintable things. But having attended several races this year and being set for several more, I have found a warm, caring, close community that offers a great deal of support, both organizationally and in the trenches. I think the fellowship and behavior on-track and off is in the upper realm and certainly better than most pro racing. It's a good place, with good people in some great cars! And infinitely less political and less moribund than the DE culture in many regions.

This is the same community that rallied around you when things went wrong.

It's a good group. We don't have to agree to be a good group. We just have to be there when things are tough for each other, in the end that is all there is.

The cup guys are just getting sick of the smack talk and stereotyping so they are beginning to talk back. I think that's to be expected.

Got another message, very humorous...From a different cupper than before...

"
wanna buy my cup? had no idea it came with automatic asshat title...."
