My car was salvage titled with Porsche rebuilt motor with 13k miles on it.
Car drove over curb hard as both wheels on one side looked like a pizza with two slices missing, but frame was straight and it ran well.
It was $11k and I sold back a/c, radio, interior, etc. to the vendor for $2k. Net $9k.
3 years later and a bunch of races incl multiple enduros in the hot south and the motor and trans are still (touch wood) gtg. And with the 3.4 every shift is at, or just above or below redline. Motul 300v is your friend.

He buys donors with blown motors from dealerships here in So Cal and occasionally elsewhere. Mine was a 44k mile car that looked flawess but had a blown motor. We paid $5.5k at auction which was a steal. Most are 7.5-10k. depending. He has a proprietary relationship with a great engine builder. All the spec suspension included and then some. He just built/sold a stripped down lightweight version like mine which is actually more work for $40k...

A few of the first cars built for the class have moved to NASA GTS and some in POC, and a few have stayed in stock class PCA. As more people convert and go into the class the more and quicker it will grow.

Are they typically NASA GTS 3 or 4?
I could definitely see these "scratching the 6Cup itch" for many...
Good thread, thanks.

There are several more in Texas being built right now. I expect 10 cars by the March race at TWS. I'm not sure how many more there are around the country, but right now I think Texas is the epicenter.

I chose it as a next step to a cup. Coming from a 944 Turbo, I needed to learn the 911 platform as a next step towards my eventual goal. Hallett was my first race weekend in this car, and really my first full testing session with the car and it was fantastic. I was painfully slow (slower than my E car on Friday), but picked up steadily through the weekend. And given that we run in the same group as the cups and GT's, it gave me a basic understanding of the pace.
I could have just bought a cup, but the running costs are extraordinary in comparison. My theory is to learn the platform in a much cheaper, and slower, version to improve my skill until I feel I can take advantage of the significant upgrade to a cup. It will be a while......
I'm in the honeymoon phase, but SO happy with it.

We see very few 996's in race trim other than the Spec cars in our parts of the world. Maybe CoinBoy or some of the others who have traveled more than I can comment on how the SP996 cars compete against 996's in other classes. Most of the H Stock cars in this part of the world seem to be 964 based, and the fastest of the SP996 cars generally run ahead of the fastest of the H Stock cars. Depends on the driver and track though. "Stock" classes have advantages in terms of what they can do with suspensions. Spec cars get benefits from weight and aero.
