Call me Laurie. I'll make sure I introduce myself at the next event. Are you going to be a Maverick's event in three weeks? Nice to almost meet you.

[QUOTE=coinboy;9904922] Chuck (Car 402) has the original motor 87,000 miles, Ran NASA in Cal. for a few years before him and he has 30+ PCA race starts on his. No, IMS/RMS or Accusump either. Just keep it full of oil and run the hell out of it. QUOTE]

Is that Vali's old car? If so it won the GTS3 Nationals in 996 Spec trim (w/Hoosiers) at Miller in 2010 with all those miles on it....

3.4 or 3.6?

Which is the best platform? At some point in my life, I will have to trade my SP2 car for something quicker. SPB is not that much quicker so I see SP996 as the ticket...

Same dilema as in SP2, 2.5 or 2.7...

Thanks

c.

Yep, Vali told me he only won that year due to someone else's engine died in the race.
Vali had GSR build that car from a street car he picked up for a deal with 76,000 miles on it.

It is a tough call. I like the 3.4 due to it runs 200lbs. lighter. Better brake life and a little better in the corners.
But, the 3.6 does pull away from me a little bit on the straights....

Your call...

I agree with Bryan that it's a tough call. I don't think we have enough data yet to know for sure, and I suspect that it will be somewhat track dependent. The 3.4l probably has the advantage at technical tracks like Hallett and Mid-Ohio. The 3.6l may be the better car for tracks like RA.

As far as the oiling concerns, just like Bryan, I run the X51 oil pan, but no accusump. We really don't have enough data to know for certain that the accusump provides meaningful protection. My suspicion is that oil starvation is not as big of an issue with these cars as some would lead you to believe.

FWIW, the rules in the class should stay quite stable. The cars perform great as is, and the general consensus amongst the racers is that we should only be fiddling with the rules for clarity, safety, or longevity of equipment.

I wish I had made it a tougher call...but I did not put in enough seat time.

Correct, ugh..... don't remind me about that please.

It took Vali 7 laps to catch us driving with no clutch and me hearing the engine and trans doing horrible things to each other while the clutch went from partial engage, to no engage, to slipping like a mother.

But take nothing away from Vali, he is a great guy and great racer, hopefully we can race against each other again and you too JR. NASA Nationals are at Miller next year ........

I agree, I think the 3.4 lighter is better.
But MG's point of the longer straight tracks will give the 3.6 motor a slight edge.

^^ What OFV said.
3.4 vs. 3.6 really is track dependent. 3.4 at Barber, but 3.6 has def edge at Sebring. RA is a toss up.
I think the 3.4 makes you a better drover. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Even at WGI?

Thanks for the info guys. Can I used a 2003-2004 model with a 3.4L?

I believe (but am not 100%) you must run the engine type that originally came in the car.
