Is anyone running Hoosier A6's on a road course
I'm thinking of running a single set, just to get a good cheater lap time on the books. It won't be in a race, so I can keep my session short, and I can run them on a cool day.
But since I only want to run one set, can anyone tell me a good cold starting pressure (and hot goal pressure) for a 2300-pound 911?
Also, if you run them, what camber settings do you like best?

They seem to be the tire of choice these days. The NASA GTS3 guys around here only use A6 and the last two PCA races the I stock guys were running A6. These are 30-40 minute stints. Not sure about enduros.

Love them! I had a set I used at an autocross and for the Robin Hood Rally and I finally tested them at Lime Rock. They feel GREAT, you can really drive the car hard without washing out. They seemed ok in hot weather for a 20 minute race on a stock '73 911. I finally broke a minute in qualifying on them. But they are about worn out after only 3 20 minute sessions. Maybe best used for only qualifying.
As for pressures, they seemed to gain more than the R6, so I would start at about 26-28, they should work great in the mid 30s. Mine got up to 40PSI and were ok but not as good as a few pounds lower.

At a big race the hoo-hoo guy was out and about and questioned our tire choice (code for giving us a rash of cr@p) and then questioned our pressures (more code) . Told us very scientifically why we can't do what we are doing. All I can say is don't listen to the hoo-hoo guy and test test test with good tires and your pyrometer to seek nirvana. The pressures you need are not what you think based on emprical use of dot tires typically used on road courses.

Thanks, guys. I'm still not positive I want to tear up that many hundred dollar bills in an afternoon. It's a hard contrast to the Nitto NT01s I've been running, which last over a year of regular events -- and street driving. But it sounds like Mike's pressures would give me a good starting point.

How would you guys compare them against say the R80 Hoosier slick for a short sprint event?

Patrick - it depends on your class. In our race groups I get 0.5 bump on power by running DOT tire. If your car is light enough you can make A6s last a lot longer than 3 20 minute sessions. Even on my 3300 GT3 I ran some of my faster times on 12-13s heat cycle. Just make sure you rotate them and I used to get them flipped on the rim as well ($60 is still better than $1200 for a new set).
I think if you ran A6s and R80s back to back you'd be surprised at the results (I did this one day - expensive test but well worth it).

I agree it is sick, and there is no prize, but speed is speed, and if it didn't matter none of us would be here talking about it.
I am interested in doing a set of A6's just for qualifying. 10 laps may be all you need. Heck, I may even try autocross.
