Der Professor advices are impressive.

And thanks for the info, as I'll be racing racing for the first time this weekend at Calabogie. I was under the impression that I had to leave lotsa space between cars, so I'll revise the whole thing!

Any other tips for a first timer (sorry if I highjack the thread...).

Well since it is your first race.. Stay safe. Stay on line and don't worry about fancy pass moves and stuff. Experineced racers will use you as practice target, but don't worry about that. Once you get you feet under you with cars all around you can worry about race craft.

Just remember all the mental effort you give to race craft is metal effort not focused on staying on track. The last thing a rookie wants to (or anyone else) is to be so focuesd on "racing" that you forget about basic driving the throw it off track.

Herr Proffessor has done enough track days and racing that just driving take maybe 25% of his focus. That leave 70% to think about race craft and 5% to think where he going to get dinner after the race.

Close...pretty close...but I'd tweak that a bit -

Staying on the track & not hittin nothin - 15%

Who is flagging from what stations today, and who is mowing the infields today ?- 5%

Where are my friends watching from ? - 5%

What's the 360 degree view of traffic ? - 10%

Strategic calculations - 20%

Racy-crafty stuff - 20 %

Watching the guys in front of me watch me (or NOT watch me) in their mirrors - 10%

What's for dinner ? - 5%

What kind of beer is in my cooler ? - 10%

Ratios change as circumstances require.
