Thinking about racing NASA events.......
DISCLOSURE: THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A COMPARE AND CONTRAST WITH PCA RACING THREAD......
Only interested in NASA comments, so can those of you that have actually raced in a NASA GTC class please share what you like and dislike about their racing program?
If you prefer to PM me please do so.......
Thanks......

I have raced with NASA many times in both Southern California Region and Arizona. In my experience, the atmosphere an racing depends a lot on your local region and the local directors. So I think it would be difficult to put a blanket statement on the group as a whole. The classing system is good and I have always had fun at NASA events.
Hopefully someone with experience in your region can comment...

I did one mechanical-shortened weekend with NASA. At least in Texas, it's a great group of folks, and a well run organization. It was fun to be racing with a bunch of different makes of cars.

Out West here in So Cal we have the a thriving racing community, with POC, NASA, and SCCA. POC and PCA are Porsche marquees only. I started running with NASA last year in the GTS classes then switched this year to their Super Touring series as it allows me the opportunity to race against Corvettes, Mazda GT's, and a few others. The ST races are in the same race group as the GTS cars so we're racing together, ususally with split starts.
I've enjoyed NASA's atmosphere and the level of competition. There's some really great drivers in our ST series and I've learned racing with them. There will always be some bonehead drivers around, but I identified them early on and just stay away from them. As Clay previously stated, how it operates is really dependant upon your local NASA region....

NASA NE is a great group of people that I have known since I first began HPDE. It's nice to race cars other than Porsches once in awhile, and it opens up more race dates and possibilities. They're flexible and reasonable people. The Lime Rock event is interesting because we run it in a half day format; practice, qualify and race all in the afternoon. You can actually sleep in and still have a day of racing, no waiting around!

NASA provides an opportunity to interact and race with different manufacturers rather than just Porsche. I like to say like the difference between Parochial and Public High School. Great group of drivers with well run events. More & More PCA drivers and Instructors have been joining our ranks. Come try an event and see.

I have raced two weekends with NASA Mid Atlantic. Great group of people and the events are well run. And you get a $5 trophy if make it to the podium in your class. It's definitely fun racing with different marques of cars.

You can race against BMW's there...
What class would your car be in Paolo, same as mine (GTS2)?
Get the German Touring Series (GTS) class calculator here - http://www.nasagts.com/rules/GTS_Class_Index_Calc.xls

Paolo's car should be GTS2. That's where my car falls and we both have 3.2 F cars
