By my calcs he's in the lower end of GT3 on R compounds.
275 at the flywheel equates to around 235 rwhp. Weight w/driver (200?) of 2730 =11.6 with 11.0 being the minimum for GTS3 on R compounds. If the 235rwhp is accurate he could weigh as little as 2585 w/driver (235 x 11). Conversly, at 2730 he could have 248rwhp. Slicks of course alter the calcs....

JR, without a whp dyno your hypothetical calculations are just that. Go to the dyno. It is no different than any other visit to the car doctor and it won't hurt (sometimes egos get a little hurt). The 964 cups dyno higher in general one of the posters in this thread drives his 964 cup in GTS4.

Let me tell you we care about our cheap cars just as much as you and your expensive car. I run a race car that I know that I can absorb the loss of - and thats why I run a 944 and not my 964. Comments like the above are some of the reasons that jokes about Porsches and porcupines exist

Sorry - one of my hot buttons.
Jerry, I have heard this same statement in many threads from guys that have not raced other than PCA nor had dyno certs done etc etc. Paolo had requested this thread be opinions from racers with Experience in that series. So for racers that have more than say 10 races in NASA, I respect your opinion(s) as I would anyone commenting on another race series.

GTC1 cars are on slicks, not to say they couldn't switch back to R6's... and a well built 3.6L can hit 250HP on a dyno to the wheels. Even with that (and 210 TQ) using 2750 as the overall weight and R6's a 964 Cup on R6's is at the very top (at 11.0) of GTS3. With Slicks you are in GTS4 and at that weight not in a good position, you would need to get as close to 2250 (w/driver, doubt it's feasible) to be at the same place in that class..

Jerry, I understand your defensiveness but it doesn't change the facts. Their are many with less expensive rides that have very caviler attitudes. Especially toward Porsches. I stand by my statement.

As for 944s, most people I know that have them have $20-30k in their cars. They are not generally inexpensive cars to own. I bet you conveniently have lose some receipts to protect the guilty.

On Topic: I'm slowly working up the NASA ladder (currently HPDE-3) and I'm hooked by the paddock atmosphere and race-oriented mindset of NASA. I love the variety of cars and people. Mustang guys rubbin' elbows and bumpers with M3 guys; Civics buzzing around with 944s. I can't comment on the racing experience yet, but I expect NASA to be my first racing experience.

Off Topic: If the propensity to swap paint is not based on a car's value, then what determines this? For example, why do Spec Miata's tend to beat on each other? Obviously, close racing and large fields add to the problem; but the same can be said of Spec E30 and 994Cup/Spec (close racing, large fields) but they don't have a reputation for bending metal.

Randy, how many races have you done in NASA and what was your experience during those races?

I will concur that NASA has a much more effective ladder system for moving up from HPDE to racing than does PCA. My experience in PCA, at least with NNJR, was that the DE segment was going in a very different direction, and if anything were discouraging racers. Further, the training was not well aligned, as NASA's is, and the DE system does not teach some important skills (such as starts and passing technique).

Yep definitely hypothetical without a dyno. Just working off his presumed flywheel HP which is always subject too. I will add that a 964 Cup would get eaten alive in GTS4 out here and I imagine anywhere else...

J. - Does Dan service your car? He can run it over to the Dyno in Waterbury for you if you like, isn't too expensive.

Great theory, but in the real world there are wilda$$ed drivers in every class of car. Back in my NASA days there was a certain GTS series director who was totally unpredictable, and known to throw banzai moves on a regular basis. His BMW was highly prepared and probably in the $100K range.
