We mostly go short sleeves at the Texas DEs. I did notice one young lady this weekend in a very tiny tee shirt. I think she was in danger of getting burned due to so many eyes on her.

Though I think it should be your choice. I always wear a fire suit since I saw what happened to my brother in law from a fire on the street, 2nd degree burns on his arms and legs which ended at his t-shirt line and the line of his shorts. The hell he went through is not worth the short sleeve.

Default Long sleeves

In SoCal Zone 8 long sleeves and pants of natural fiber are specified for "some" fire protection. In hot weather there is an option to allow shorts and short sleeves at the discretion of the DE/ time trial chairs.

We should go to short sleeves or allow driver discretion but frequently don't do the former and never do the latter. It's ridiculous IMO. We should be mandating fire extinguishers and full nomex (at least the former) if fire is really what we're worried about.

Long sleeves aren't going to do much other than make people uncomfortable on hot days- and I think a comfortable driver is a safer driver. I even use the AC- these are DE events after all.

Burns suck, and know no difference between a race and a DE. I consider a nomex jacket over a tshirt to be a good compromise on hot days; the tshirt is cool for around the paddock, the nomex jacket offers protection while on track and it's quick and easy to put on/take off which means it'll actually get worn.

That said, I think it should be up to each individual, but be prepared to accept your own personal responsibility should things go wrong.

i guess here's the proof. i always thought long sleeves would provide no protection but i guess they do provide minimal protection.

Amen!

short sleeves, and shorts are fine, if insurance allows it.

I think you should be allowed to run with no seatbelts if that what you want to do.

Almost all of the time, you won't need them either....

edit: I don't think this engine knew it was a race vs DE when it blewup and caught fire.....https://rennlist.com/forums/7654685-post1.html

^ SPICEY.........

+1 on suit I wear it all the time regardless of event. Car on track = suit, confirmation came when I watched a buddy's helmet mounted camera reply lots of FIRE due to a ruptured line. Thankfully this happened at a DE.............driver ok, car a bit toasty.

I bring a set of coveralls (fire retardant but not a fire suit). I wear light shorts and a t-shirt for the HOURS between sessions, then slip on the coveralls for the track sessions. (And I have been known to blast my A/C while waiting in pit lane. ;-)

I was of the opinion that long sleeve shirts were useless until I saw it for my self. The line where the burn stopped was very apparent and it was nothing but a cotton t

MORPCA goes short sleeve when the temps rise in the 80's. Its a trade off. The risk of a fire in a stock car is way less due to DOT standard vs. a race car. Not many fires at DE's. but heat exhaustion and dehydration can happen at a DE just as in a race. so we allow it.

RTR goes short sleeves when it's hot. Common sense I think.
