Magnetic Car Numbers

At every DE I go to I see magnetic numbers flying off cars. How do you guys get them to stay put?
I use static cling vinyl...wet the surface and squeegee it on. Never a problem but magnetic seems eaiser.

Magnetic car numbers can work just fine. There are some secrets though.
1) Do not make the panel larger than need be. PCA wants numbers 4 inches tall minimum.
2) Do not use complex shapes - round or square with the corners rounded off is best.
3) Have the vinyl cut at a 45 degree bevel at the edges.
4) When not in use store the panels on a magnetic surface (this is crucial)
5) Before applying the panels to the car, give the back side of the panel and the car door a squirt with Pledge or quick detail spray wax. Polish and dry.
I no longer use magnetic vinyl - GT3 doors are aluminum but on my 996GT3 and 993 before that I never had a panel come off at speed and on tracks I ran that means 250 KPH or about 150 MPH.
Have fun.

Magnetic is great for more than just numbers, it is great for decals as well, however recently one of them flew off on the back straight at Road Atlanta. At the recent PCA club race in Atlanta they said no to magnetic anything. I think it is/may be different for DE's.

These guys offer both cling and magnetics. Nice stuff although I tape the leading edge of mine as faster venues as a precaution.
