I know these threads are difficult to deal with.

If you all don't mind, out of respect for the family and individuals involved, I would respectfully ask that there be no further analysis or speculation into the event discussed as part of this thread. I think heartfelt condolences are far more appropriate.

Very sorry to read about this, Dell - my condolences to the instructor's family as well as to you, his friends, and especially the student.
This is particularly sobering as, not only am I an instructor, but my 2nd-born son (now 18) will do his 1st track day in May. We'll do it safely, but life can have its nasty surprises.
