Juha,

For some reason, when you use the word "bedding" and "race track" Brake pads did not come to mind

I'm glad to see you actually have the time to race .................

Im getting excited to try them out this race weekend! Hope they dont cause me any issues, with lock up or i end up overdriving them! I have bigger rotors, Blacks, and bigger front tires too. Im hoping the entire package will be better and I guess it doesnt matter which part of the changes make the difference. all of them by themselve should do something big!
Im 4 square now, just like the awesome Acura P1!

This whole bedding in pads deal seems like such a black science to me...especially for just a DE guy like me that swaps pads in my garage and drives 95miles to Sebring for DE.

what pads? I do the same, but those first couple of laps, are pretty smelly.

take a cool down lap and they are ready to go. I guess some pads dont even need this.

Mark, I am talking about Pagid Yellow's...they require an exact bed in according to the Pagid website. The PF97's I've run claim they do not require a bed in plus the PF97's seem to grip better right of the bat...the Pagid Yellows seem thicker and last longer and the brake dust is not corosive like the Pagids...remember I have a street car and want to keep it looking good...ha ha.

So my question is...I get Pagid Yellows, put them on at my house...how, and where do I bed them in? I drive the car to the track...mostly highway so not a lot of braking. Should I not brake normally with the Yellows in and wait to brake hard at the last minute on the street...might cause an accident with cars following me....will I ruin the Yellows with light street braking on my drive to the track....get my question?

I just switched to my track pads (Hawk HT10s) for upcoming track days, and I never officially bedded them (just drove to work today) and they sound like CRAP. I assume/hope they'll mellow out.

Fun fact. Sunday was my birthday. Funner fact, my license expired Sunday and I'm driving around illegally!

I swap both pads & rotors for the track.

Carbotech's are a bitch to bed in properly.

Wilwood "H" & "J's" weren't such a problem.

Kinda sorta related.....
Just bedded in my Pagid 29f/14r on the highway (rotors already had a few days on them). The procedure is 90-50mph with moderate pressure 4-6 times and then 110-50mph with heavy pressure 2-3 times. Do a few light braking cleanups between the 2-3 heavy brake applications.I don't swap them out for track vs street.
I actually hated the idea of breaking them in on the highway but I see two realities: It is hard to do this type of break-in on a track. secondly, on the highway the amount of time I am actually above say 75mph is kinda limited. My car will go all this in 3rd and from 75 to 90 is nothing and even 75-110 is pretty quick followed by the heavy braking to under the limit.
Other than making a few other drivers wonder what I was doing it was pretty quick and dirty and I don't want/need a ticket but really it is mere seconds above the "acceptable" mph arena.
I obviously do this in an area of highway I am quite familiar with. My 2cents on bedding issues.

PFC97's need to be bedded according to PFC's website. They're easy to bed, IMO, but you can get it wrong.

The idea that you can put new pads and rotors and wail on the brakes from lap 1 is lunacy.

One thought would be take off your older rotors prior to replacement. Keep them for the street when you need to switch. Two more bolts to get the calipers off.

Juha:

Back to your post.

Check out the bedding-in info on the Stoptech.com site. I think it is in one of the white papers or a FAQ in the "Technology" section. Good stuff.

By the way, I use the PFC 97s on my arrive and drive car. In my case the drive to the track with track pads (45 mi. or more) seems to be enough to clean up the older transfer layer. Then 2 careful laps on the track and voila all is right with the world!

All I can say was the boys were right . Pagid Blacks are the BOMB!
Not really much bedding needed and they were pretty much good from the first few laps. Oranges were much more fickle

Question for you guys. I have a new set of Toyota rotors and a new set of Carbotech XP10 pads to install on my Supra. The rotors have a silver coating on them which I think is zinc. Should I run an old set of Ctechs to wear that stuff off before bedding in my new pads? Or, will it not matter?
