My fast lap was a low 2:31. The 125's are in the 2:30 range now. The draft
plays a crucial role in lap times/avg. speed.

I loved the video!! Running 125 shifter karts is like drinking liquid adrenaline!!!!! In addition to my race car, I also own a 125 shifter kart. Mine is a Birel CR32X chassis with a TM Racing "moto" engine that I bought new in 2003 when I lived in Cincinnati, OH. I used to be able to run at a dedicated asphalt sprint track in Camden, OH (G&J Kartway) somewhere around 2 or 3 times a month. But, now that I have moved to Charlotte, NC, I haven't driven it at all because there aren't any asphalt kart tracks around here. I also have never been able to run mine on a big track (big track being anyting designed for cars), however, I would like to have the opportunity some day.

Regarding big tracks, I was talking to the guys at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) and they mentioned that they occassionally run karts there. I will have to stay in touch to make sure I can get in on one of those kart days. But . . . I need to refresh the top end of my engine before running again. Does anybody on the list know who happens to still sell parts for the TM Racing moto engines anymore??

Thanks,
Jeff

WOW, that is one great video, drafting was spectacular! Brings back many fond memories, when I was a kid my Dad and I raced karts. Mac 6 & Mac 10 engines, unbelievable how the engineering has changed.....

Great video. Drafting seems to be very important with these. Very cool to watch them slingshot around over and over.
I am guessing this sport is pretty dangerous from the look of it with no driver protection and all. Still very fun looking...

Last year a kart pilot lost his life at Road America:

That was REALLY cool! man, that first main straight pass was awesome. It was like you had "Push to pass".

Amazing how the draft works in those karts. Lots of strategy.

What was the camera system. very nice

Jeff:

There is a private karting facility in Cincinnati if you ever get back.

I remember watching Michael Andretti drive a shifter kart at the USGP at Watkins Glen in the late 70s. His dad was driving for Lotus F1 at the time. The shifter karts were supposedly doing 140 on the back straight. Very impressive ...

Yes, it is the Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati (www.mccofcincinnati.com). The sad part is that I had to move my family down to Charlotte during April of 2006 . . . which just so happens to be right around when that facility opened . . . so I have never been able to run my karts there. I lived on the East side of Cincinnati and that facility is only a 15 minute drive from where I lived.

There are a lot of things I like about living in Charlotte . . . but access to asphalt sprint tracks for kart racing is NOT one of them!!

I also need to give Tom Barth a call at Green Flag Karting (http://greenflag.net/). He is based in Michigan and I used to be able to get parts through him but I haven't called him in over three years so I am not sure if he still keeps parts for the TM Racing moto engines in stock.
