Default Recommendation needed: Freight Co to Ship an engine?

Title says it all. I need a recommended freight company for shipping a motor from Maryland to Georgia. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chad

Only if you're shipping to the country Georgia! They still ship internationally, but not nationally.

My transmission was just shipped cross country with Bax Global. Their rates were great but they only handle b2b shipping. Easy enough if you have a 'home office'.

I've used FedEx freight to ship all my engines back to the builder. 125 bucks from Southern WI to Central Missouri.

I've used FedEx Freight and Bax Global. Both worked very well.

I've gotten engines shipped to me via SAIA (sp?), Yellow, and Fedex freight. I've used the latter to ship a transmission.

Chad,

I used Roadway when I shipped my motor from MA to NC and it worked great. I had the motor shipped to the depot in NC (about 1/2 hr from home). Whatever you do it gets expensive when you have a home delivery. Get a bud with a truck and pick it up at teh depot.

I used ABF to ship from Cinci to Brooklyn a few years ago and was very happy.

I just shipped a VW VR6 engine from South Carolina to Michigan 300 lbs for $123 with RL Carriers. They don't charge for non-loading dock pickup if shipped from a business. They offer 55% discount standard, but if you call for a rate quote the usually give 70%. This quote was for business to business shipping with no loading docks on either end. It is more expensive, but they will pick up and deliver to a residence.

These guys are right on target with the LTL carriers. (saia, roadway, rl carriers, etc.) Call a few of them and get quotes...try to talk with a freight saleperson instead of ops. They are graded based on the volume and profits. You'll find one that will give you a upfront discounted rate. Be careful, the rates quoted can vary GREATLY.

Make sure it's packed properly and open the box or whatever its packed in and inspect it very well before you sign for it.
