Thanks, I think you're right. James Clay suggested 2-3 lbs lower than the pressures I had established for the RA1's, which I will do in the future.

Too bad they don't make sizes that most of us Porsche guys would like though because I'd run the NT-01's in an instant over the R888 if they made the right size for my car. I've even considered compromising for what they do offer but since i can't go up due to wheel size I was going to be giving up quite a bit of footprint to run Nitto's on my car.

I've been told it's the same rubber compound as the RA1 (not the same as the R888), but -- as is mentioned above -- stiffer sidewall, more stable tread pattern, and they're essentially pre-shaved. That said, there's still the outside skin (molding compound) to burn through, and that could explain Veloce's first session in the wet -- hard to cut into the rubber much on a wet track.

I've run one set and am in the same ballpark as my RA1 times. I haven't seen a huge leap forward, but it's nice not to have to get them shaved (or deal with the first two days having them dance all over the place, especially under braking).

That is EXACTLY what it felt like. I have been running Hankook Z214's that didn't have this issue, and before that World Challenge RA1 take-offs with 1 heat cycle that were already shaved....so this (a full treaded track tire) was a relatively unusual experience.

Try experiencing the tread squirm in a GT3 from the R888s. Man that was a different feeling when I was used to running shaved RA1s.

Your car on shaved RA1's at Road Atlanta = heaven on earth.

Dave if your tires started to skirm after 6 laps your pressures might have been too high. I've been at Willow Spring for 25-30 min. sessions at 100 plus degrees with consistant feedback.
Interesting comparison. Sounds like many here concur at least that NT1>=RA1. Any opinions on how the BFG R1's stack up against these?

Got a set of NT-01 and ran for a couple of days at Mid O in September. Have not had the RA1 so can't compare...was running hoo's.

First session was dry and warm...but the tire felt a little greasy almost. Improved as the session wore on. Second session, much better. I found they made an almost evil howling sound through the keyhole at MO...but then all tires make noise at MO since the repaving.

By the end of the weekend I found that the feedback was excellent. Grip was good...but not in Hoosier territory. But over two hard days, the wear hardly shows and I had some nice four wheel slides at times...ie. tire was very predictable and progressive.

If they wear like some have said...I may be a convert...especially given the price!

All this talk about being shaved while staring at the hottie in VR's avatar is getting to me.

Running my first set with six hc on them and real happy with them and not alot of tread off of them. I know that the hoosiers are going to be a few seconds faster but compared cost/ life of the nitto I will be getting a second set of NT-01's.

I have both.. 17" BFG R1's 18" Nitto NT-01

BFG R1's IMO Suck. They seemed very twitchy, and un-predictable. They also got a ton of build-up in a short time. Which is why they remain my spares and sit on my trailer incase my Nitto's Chord. BTW these are 1.5 yrs old, any concerns about the life of them going un-used?

Nittos-NT01. First off my tire experience is limited but here is my opinion:
I experienced something similar to what others have said when I first put them on the track. They were squirmy and unsettling. However, it was cold, damp, and at Barber which is 180 after 180. By the second day I loved them.
IMO
-Predictable
-Greasy when hot (over 41psi Rear)
-Heat-up very quickly (remember all those times I passed you at Barber VR?)
-Right Price
-Last forever. I'm on my second set now, but they lasted 1/2 season for me.
