Default Raikkonen wants to apologize to the Finn

Raikkonen 'sad' about recent poor form

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, October 2nd 2008, 14:35 GMT

Kimi Raikkonen has confessed to feeling 'sad' about his situation at Ferrari, after a nightmare weekend in Singapore all but ended his world championship hopes for the year.

The Finn's title challenge has been derailed after failing to score points in the past four races, and he has expressed some frustration about the lack of return for his and the team's efforts after crashing out in Singapore.

"It's difficult to find the right words: racing at night or during the day, this is definitely not my year," he told Ferrari's official website on Thursday. "I hit the wall (in Singapore) when there were just a couple of laps left. True, I wasn't racing for the win, but for some very important points for the team; and then it ended like at Spa, with another DNF.

"It seems as if the more we try to improve the situation the less we get in the end. At this point I can just hope for a weekend where everything goes in the right direction.

"Once again we had the right speed at Singapore, but not when it was really necessary. The fastest race laps aren't worth anything, if you don't combine them with the situation when they really count.

"Obviously I'm really sad about this situation. I can't explain this dark period and there's nothing I can do to change what happened. We have to look ahead, to the last three races. "

Raikkonen will play a supporting role to teammate Felipe Massa in the final three races of the season, and sees no reason why Ferrari cannot be up there at the front of the grid.

"I'm very sorry for the team, because they've done some great work to improve the F2008. It hurts losing these points. But we know that we've got what it takes to fight for victory in the last three grands prix. Let's hope that I'll finally have a smooth weekend, from Friday to Sunday evening."

What can you say? It's just a down sophomore year for Kimi. I believe he will work hard in the off season and come back stronger than ever. The team and other circumstances beyond his control... helped him along the way however.

It's about time!
He sent me a bottle of Finlandia though (he heard about our bet) so I have to give him some slack.
Don't celebrate yet Wayne, he's fully behind Massa now which can mean difficult times for Hammy so it ain't your bottle yet.

+1
He hasn't lost his skill/speed, nor interest. I'm confident they'll get the handling issues sorted out and especially if Massa doesn't win WDC, support Kimi's style of driving at least as much, if not more, as they've now catered more to Massa's style.

Ferrari is looking ahead , the car is not setup for Massa it is setup for FA

For Kimi to say he is now driving to help Massa , is , well cute ! Massa might as well have have PQ driving for him as both KR and PQ are about even the last 6 races ......in results and points added ...

Yes Kr won't be able to help Massa with Hamilton .................

Why is Ron Dennis so sad? FA to Ferrari

Nice how all these holier than thou posts are stored on Rennlist for several years. You probably won't be as quippy in 2010 when you're proven WRONG...

Indeed, Luis, your post is on record as well! We can go back a year and see how wrong A. Wayne has been, not only on the Alonso to Ferrari deal, but virtually everything else.

We'll have to wait and see what happens in 2010, in the meantime, 2 years is a long time for Alonso to wait for a competitive ride.

Fernando Alonso has underlined this year just how good he is. Alonso has transcended his Renault's limitations with a series of brilliant drives.. BBC - Sport.

I have zero photoshop skills but someone needs to PS in a thought bubble that says... "I can't believe I won that race" right above FA's head.
