One that has been modified from "As Delivered by Porsche Motorsports for use in the Supercup series". A car that has a different engine, solid suspension bushings, headers, and or no muffler, wider wheels, ABS from a 996 Cup, different gearing...those are just some of the items that would push a car to GTA.

ah. is there one or two typical things that people add...like abs for example?

edit: it just never occurred to me that you'd need to modify a 997 cup

All you can really do to a 997 and keep it in GTC4 is to add 2 way dampers and a fuel cell. Other series allow modifications that bump you to GTA. For example, IMSA now allows 4 way dampers. Grand-Am allows a bunch of changes that would bump you. Some guys like Glen just want more power and put in a wammy engine. GTA is fun because you can do pretty much whatever you want to the car.

And, yes, ABS would bump you to GTA.

gotcha...so some guys are buying cars that ran in series that would automatically bump you to GTA. I take it that's where most of the 7 cups are coming from as opposed to directly from the factory?

A few cup cars are purchased directly by PCA only drivers but most come through some other series. Mostly IMSA I think. Most of the bigger PCA events have some IMSA or Grand Am regulars running in GTC4.

Yes, but a Grand Am spec 997 cup would run in GTA.

True however there are racers like JoseManuel G. that run in Grand Am and have a regular 997 to run with PCA.

The first 997 cups delivered (2006) were delivered with non-adjustable Sachs shocks. IMSA regulations allowed for any 2-way shock so most drivers changed them out immediately. PCA placed those cars in GTA originally, but backed off in 2007 and allowed them with any 2-way shocks in GTC4. Now that IMSA has changed their spec and is allowing any adjustable shock, cars with more than 2-way adjustables are falling into the GTA class again.

As others have said, the Grand Am cars or the World Speed Challenge cars have other modifications like the Crawford wing or motor internals that push them into GTA.

If you saw the Road America results you would see the 7-Cups running in GTC4 and GTA so it can get confusing....

Because he has enough invested in his D car now that he could have bought a 997 Cup!

Sean, remember the cost/hr. That will put a smile back on your face.

I was told RSR can run $6,200.00 per racing hour.

Edit: excluding crashes.
