Driving through the eye-wall of a hurricane isn't either.

isn't it supposed to be calm in the eye. all we have to do is stay in the eye

seriously Lisa and I were on an itty bitty island in the bahamas 14 yrs ago and rode through hurricane herman as it wiped the island off

we stood on a pier in the eye

nothing cooler ...sitting in the eye
walls of rain and clouds and wind surrounding you and the stillness of the eye

amazing

probably not so cool in my car

I got caught in Florida during a fishing trip a few years back and was in the eye of Hurricane Jean at a friend's house. Very surreal experience. Watching sideways rain and shingles flying everywhere, then total calm and seeing the eye wall, then not so cool again.

Your faithful DE committee just hung up on a conference call discussing this weekend's LSR event in College Station. We discussed at length the current trajectory of the storm and all indications are that bad boy IKE is headed our way packing winds faster than what I spin through Turn 2 going in my old 944. Ted Lazerides said it best, "the storm is closer to Florida than Texas right now". So we have decided to postpone the decision to cancel the event 12 hours. We all remember Rita and we all agreed that we will most definately know more at 7am tomorrow. If the track stays the same, we will be cancelling the event.

You are our friend and partner on our event and we take your safety very seriously.

We understand that some may want to decide for themsleves tonight regarding the event and we will respond in the event you want to cancel with a full refund or the option to migrate your registration to our next event in December.

We are doing our best to deliver and we are all anxious after a long hot summer full of Politics and tough economy, to get back on the track and in our cars.

Please check your email after 9am tomorrow, Thursday and I will be sending Greg Stewart's final decision, Greg has done a great job as our committee chairman

Thanks for your patience and desire to drive with the Lone Star Region Porsche Club. .
Richard W. Jackson.
LSRPCA Registrar.

You can always hang out and play "Half-Life" for real with us. I'm breaking out the night vision and 3k rounds of 7.62 for the impending post-Ike zombies

Good reasoning, Richard. I appreciate you guys taking your time to carefully evaluate this situation while some of us (see: Lizard, E) are running around trying to figure out what to do with parents and in-laws and such. I'll check for messages tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic (although item 1 on my storm checklist was have car inspected for DE).

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.

It has the very creative name of "T10".

Richard, sorry all your work may come to naught. I suspect TWS will be fuxored.

I also suspect that I may be heading to Houston or wherever it hits the worst, with lots of weapons, to help keep first responders and infrastructure executives (as well as some energy bigwigs) from getting shot, just as I did right after Katrina hit NOLA in 2005. They are doing the call-up now. But the money is great & the targets plentiful...LOL!

There's room in the Globe hacienda if you need it.
