Got it. I think at some point someone will find a mini-usb charger that does power the unit without making the frankencharger but it's certainly no big deal to make it. I wrote to Aiptek about putting one out with a long cable, wouldn't hold my breath for it...

Wide Angle lens just arrived.

1st thing - the magnet is useless for our application. What it does do is hold the lens in place while you tape it up. I used electrical tape (plastic type) and did about 5 winds. It isn't going to move...

Here is the finished product, that's a piece of scotch tape securing the battery cap...

+1000000 on that! Last time out, I just plugged in the frankencharger, and left the camera on all day. Used the remote to start and stop recording.

Cool Gary. That really takes care of the field of view. Honestly though, the picture quality seems to be degraded relative to what I'm used to. I'm wondering if that is due to some compression you've gone through, or if that is the lens? At what resolution did you save the file?

It is degraded Mike. First off I converted it to Mpeg 4 which compressed it about 25%. Then I edited it in Pinnacle 11 and that compresses it a bit. Finally I dropped it into Vimeo and THEY compress it a bit. I could just DL the original .MOV file but even that would be compromised a bit. I just posted it to show the field of view, but if anyone wants the original (570MB) I would be glad to post it directly..

Too big of a file to ask you to upload. How does the video compare when it's not been compressed? I'm really tempted to pick up one of those lenses. Where did you buy it?

Do you think this will fit?

This may be the most helpful Rennlist thread of all time.

I honestly don't know. Look at the link to B&H Photo and see if they mention lens size. The one I bought fits fine obviously.. The black tape to hold it on costs extra..
"• Lens attaches magnetically and has 23mm inner diameter & 31mm outer diameter"

And I didn't answer the resolution question. I recorded in the lower HD resolution at 60FPS to start with...

F.Y.I. Report:

I bought an Aiptek Action HD camera 3 weeks ago at Wal-Mart. This is a package that includes many accessories, including a remote control. At the first DE I used it, the remote sometimes worked and sometimes didn't work. The camera recorded fine manually.

At the second DE, the remote did not operate my camera at all. My remote "did" operate Gary's camera, but Gary's remote did not operate my camera. Obviously a camera issue, although the camera recorded fine manually.

I returned the Aiptek Action HD to Wal-Mart today, where I originally purchased it. Luckily it just qualified for an electronic item return under the 30-day window for returns.

The new camera is charged now and records perfectly using the included remote.

Glad to hear you remote issue worked out George. Now you'll be able to video my line at Summit in August to improve your driving
