I think what happened was he got on the gas too hard while still under the bridge. It made him go wide, he then hit a bump (at 5 seconds into the clip, which is somewhat hard to see on youtube), which destabilized the car. I spoke to him afterwards, showed him the tape, and he was fine with me posting it on youtube.
Tom, I'll make sure I come say hi in three weeks!!! I meant to but ended up spending Saturday waiting for my car to be ready, and made it back to Sebring for the last 5 laps of the day. No excuse for Sunday, though!

Glad everyone is OK!
Early apex followed by acceleration on track out, and simply ran out of room. Pretty basic. Done it myself a few times, but not yet on 17.

Hi Mike, nice meeting you too! PM me your email address if you'd like for a couple pictures I took of turn 7 from the hotel. Good view of the camouflaged headlights!

He was way wide at the second apex and yet kept his foot in it!

Watching that makes me wonder how much time he's spent with an instructor in the right seat. Not enough I'd say. Glad he's OK.

Armando nice to meet you as well, I was the guy at the gas dock commenting on you silver car. Scott, Chad was booking thru just after the impact and I jogged right after see the debris flag at pit in, after that I elected to pit for the session and let the next group sweep the track.

Great time nice to see all.

Cheers

I think that's called CHIN motorsport...

I have a friend, who I know still is not a very good driver.
He joined CHIN about a year ago and after only one track weekend was promoted to solo. I immediately knew this was not the club for me.

100% -somewhere between the 4th and 5th second on your clip you see the car porpoise and being on the edge, the lose of stability was all he needed.

Sorry to hear that !!!

I've instructed with Chin for a number of years and have found them to be one of the better clubs and very safety conscience.

We mostly err on the conservitive side...

Allowing a driver to be signed off for solo requires a Master Instuctor's check ride and approval.

--And I knew a guy, that was promoted to Instructor with Chin, and was then given reciprocal Instructor status... in PCA/PBOC, and NASA...

(he had a race license, but thats about it)

Thankfully, he quit driving after a bad crashout at T17, 2 yrs ago... (during a race)

Another take on turn 17 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5V5zgmi6vI&NR=1

2nd lap was a 2:25.+++ on street tires

No I am not the driver.

Nice to see a well-driven GT3. a 2:25+ is running close to club race times. Notice how he unwinds the wheel as he approaches trackout, and seemlessly manages the times when the tail steps out. Too many GT3 drivers try and "hold" the back, and that results in most of the spins that we see. This thread is typical.

That's a weird line... And he doesn't leave ANY room for error.

Christian, it was nice meeting you too. I'll follow your advice and never sell that car!
Pete, these two laps on the other Youtube video are incredible. It's nice to see how he keeps his momentum and does 3-4-5 and 10-11-12 in third gear because he's going fast enough! Chip V. told me his best lap in his 996 GT3 was a 2:20. Let's try to imagine!
Juha, What's weird about his line?
