They gave out the 10 year old Worker's Choice awards* and whatnot, but were there placement awards for the individual classes? Or after last year's "pieces of wood" did Peachstate simply bail on awards this year?
*although the Worker's Choice plaques are really nice, how about a RS Spyder pic vs. the GT1?

Yeah, it would be nice to get a little something. This "no trophy" crap is getting a little ridiculous. Some sort of small reminder that you podium'd would be nice.

I thought it was funny they were not handed out at the Chalet or at the Bar-B-Q dinner Saturday night. I just assumed they had made other distribution arraingments.
Sorry guys. I'm embarrassed my region would not give 'anything' much less my idea of giving out BIG *** trophies for at least 1st place.
Larry, remember the story I told you about the 'Thank You' frames? This seems to proves my point.

For reasons that have to do with sausage making not being a spectator sport, Potomac didn't provide podium trophys for our 2007 race. This will be fixed for our 2008 race, you have my word on that.

Just a quick comment on this thread from one of the stewards at the race.
After the region had posted the announcement about race registration and obtained the national committee's approval for the event application, they finally received the contract from the track. Although they had been told that there would not be any changes, the contract for this year's race included a 30% increase in the cost of track rental (You read that correctly, 30%!).
The region made the decision to absorb that increased track rental cost, and not pass it on to the racers.
That decision did result in some minor cost cutting to the budget, including the elimination of trophies.
Frankly, from my point of view I'd rather see that decision, as opposed to an increase in registration fees. The Saturday dinner, Friday beer and wine, and a great windshirt stayed in the budget.
As a further FYI, the decision whether a race awards trophies or not is strictly a local race committee decision. For a number of years the national committee has not enforced Monte's former edict about "No Trophies".
I do have to say, however, that this thread is awfully frustrating from a race and national committee perspective. My take on the race, as well as everyone I spoke with, regardless of whether they were a racer, an SCCA worker, someone in the tower, a region volunteer, or simply a spectator was that it was a great weekend of close, competitive, fun racing.
Heck, even a racer who had to have the "hard" chat with the steward because he had a single car incident with damage commented that it was a great weekend, only marred by an single mistake on the racer's part.
If someone is really only PCA club racing for a trophy, I personally think they need to reconsider their motivation for racing. Please think about that Larry and Charlie.
Best regards and I'll see many of you at MidOhio, where I'll actually be racing!
