Default Michelin Specs needed: 24/64 & 27/65

Can someone please provide the OD, Section Width and reccomended rim width range for Michelin Cup tires in 24/64 and 27/65 sizes. I have tried to search Google and cant come up with anything (in English, that is). Thanks in advance.

I have a chance to obtain a set and want to make sure they fit.

They will fit your car, we had them on a 964 Cup. The S7A front S8A rear compound is nowhere near as good as the "Yellow Cup" or "Blue Cup" compound, but they may be sufficient for your needs.

yes. I also run that size on 10" fronts, so there is some variance that the tire will fit on.

The 24/64 has an OD of 25.3" and should be fitted ideally on 9-10.5" rims. The tire width is obviously 240mm and section width on 11" rims is 252mm.

The 27/65 has an OD of 25.6" and should be fitted on 11-12" rims. Tire width is 270mm and section is 286mm on 11" rims.

As Geoffrey said, they should however fit without issues on your car.

I use occasionally the same fronts and a set of 27/68 in the rear (26.8").

24/64 is designed for a 9-10.5 rim...hmmmm...the speedlines these would go on are 8.0"....sure I'm not pinching that tire too much Geoffrey? Just want to make sure b4 I pull the trigger.

jean-

thanks! Any chance you can PM a link to where you found this info?

Thanks for the link Jean...perfect!

I'm not really concerned about clearance...I run some big front tires as it is, but the set of rims these Michelins would go on has only 8" fronts, and I was concerned about pinching such a wide front tire too much on an 8" front rim.

thanks for all the info!

The Michelin information is at www.jdmotorsports.com

I don't think the 24/64 tires will fit on a 10.5" wheel, I have difficulty fitting them on a 10" wheel and usually requires finesse setting the bead. The 24/65 will not fit on a 12" rim, I tried and it physically will not fit. The 24/68 with the larger sidewall barely fits and usually requires a beadserter tool to set the bead.

I have the 6 page Michelin Race Tire Catalog on disc in PDF. It lists all the section widths and rim widths. The 24/64 slicks are listed as fitting a 8-1/2" to 10" rim. The 27/65 fit a 9-1/2" to 11-1/2" rim.

I'll forward a copy to anyone who send me their e-mail address:

I have those same Michelins on 10/11" rims. The Michelin brochure lists the range of 24/64-18 as 8.5-10.5 IIRC. Putting them on 10" rims had me scratching my head because it looks like the rim is too wide but they are racing tires and don't have lip protection.
It was also apparently difficult to mount them. The folks that mounted them supposedly do this all the time and have real racing Porsches all over the shop but they called me and said that the rims are 19s. They weren't but it goes to show the difficulty possible in mounting them, being as dumb as a bag of rocks doesn't help either.

I just mounted 1 hour ago 24/64 Michelin Cup front tires on my 10" wheels and they fit like a glove, I even installed them at a small tire shop around the corner (yes I can drive with race slicks on the street here ) with rudimentary tools and it was very quick and easy. The rear are 27/68 on 12" wheels, just as easy.

jrgordonsenior, thanks for the information.
