Default Registration open for Cups & Saucers DE, 5/14-15

I just got the e-mail below. I did C&S last year, for the first time, and enjoyed it. I don't think I can schedule it this year, though. Just an FYI, although the e-mail does NOT tell how to register!

Hudson Champlain Region
Advanced DE at Watkins Glen International
May 14th - 15th, 2008

The Cups and Saucers event !!

With Seminar & Individual Coaching Provided By Speed Secrets

Registration is now open for our Advanced Driver Education event at Watkins Glen, May 14th - 15th, 2008.

This year promises to be an event not to miss.

For those of you new to Cups and Saucers; the following is the event format.

We will have 2 run groups available to drivers.
Drivers may run in both run groups if desired, within the guidelines below:
Run Groups:

Group 1 - CUPS: Run group for high horsepower & modified cars.

Group 2 - SAUCERS: Run group for lower horsepower & street cars.

You may drive in both or one run group, wherever you feel most comfortable. However, if you choose to drive in the street car group and you have a high horsepower car, you must adjust your speed and driving technique to the group. If you have a lower horsepower car the same applies. If you choose to run in the modified run group, adjust your speed and driving technique to match the run group. Any driver not following these guidelines will not be allowed the option to run in both groups but will be assigned to one group only.

ANY aggressive driving, badgering, or disrespect to fellow drivers, or Track Steward, you will be expelled from the event. No exceptions.

Run groups will be 30 minutes each, same as last year. Run group on the track will be marked at staging.

* * * * *
Speed Secrets Race Coaching team is made up of a network of race driving coaches who are recognized as some of the leading and most sought-after coaches in all of racing.

Secure an hour or more to experience these techniques with the Speed Secret Coaches available at the event. They are experienced and certified in coaching at the highest levels of the sport. These are not off-duty drivers trying to stay close to the track while they wait to secure their next ride. Each one understands the value of coaching as a profession and is committed to “Whatever It Takes.”

Ross Bentley; winning the 1998 US Road Racing GT-3 Championship for the factory BMW M3 Team, and the 2003 Daytona 24-Hour race, and Speed Secrets Author,
expands traditional methods by focusing on what is really driving the car...the driver's mind.

Ross put his experience and knowledge of racing and human performance into the Speed Secrets books. Speed Secrets 1 through 6 represent the best-selling race driving technique books written.

We invite you to meet and listen to Scott Leder; presenter of Ross Bentley's Speed Secrets Seminar, for all drivers at no additional cost. Secure a full hour, or more, with a certified Speed Secrets Coach to experience how to be faster and more consistent
from the most sought-after and respected race and performance driver coaches
in North America.

Dinner will be provided Wednesday night at no cost to you at the Glen Suites.

Garage Bays can be reserved for $30 per bay for the entire event. Proceeds to benefit the Teen Center, Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY

Camping at the track will be available Tuesday, May 13th and Wednesday, May 14th.

Hi Chris
I have the same email and can't wait to go; I think you are right that you can't sign up yet. It may be open 10 weeks before event date.

I emailed them today. The registration form will be available tomorrow. Apparently, the timing of the email missed the webmaster by one day.

I also went last year and had a blast. I can't wait for this event. It's been on my calendar since last year.

I went to the HCR site and there isn't a link to the registration nor is there a form for the garage application available. The site does state :

"Registration opens ten weeks before the date of the event. Registration closes two weeks prior to the date of the event. Refunds will only be granted to applicants who cancel two weeks prior to the event.
There will be no exceptions to this rule.

Applications will not be accepted if postmarked prior to the date registration opens or after registration closes."

I emailed Patti to see if maybe this announcement was premature..

Ahh... missed that by one minute.. guess we can do it tomorrow!

BINGO!

There was a huge thread about it last year. I was advised to go to the Mid-Ohio Club race if I didn't like the way they did things. This year I will.

Gary, don't you mean about twice what it's worth?

I agree, I'll be at the Mid-Ohio club race this year too. I didn't get one good lap the entire two days and was 15 seconds or so off of what I normally run at WGI. I think this is why most people with race cars have abandoned this event. It has been significantly watered down since our Region developed the Advanced Driver with pro instruction format many years ago.

Too bad we cant replicate the fall event hosted by the region. That was something special and running tight and fast with Geoffrey was a hoot!

I was trying to be a funny guy but apparently you and Larry saw right through THAT! As you well know I wasn't pleased with the instructor switcheroo BS and there were too many slower driver's that were obivious to their surroundings last year.... and I ran with both groups!

Its kind of sad that one of the best DE events going has one of the nastiest arguments going.
Me? I'm just going to arrive and drive and have fun.
