Transportation of Nigrogen Bottles
I found out today that if you have a nitrogen bottle in your trailer (or truck) you should carry with you the paperwork from the place where you purchased (or rented) the bottle. They'll give you identification paperwork for the transportation of hazardous material for the DOT.
If you are stopped and they see it, they will want to see the paperwork.
Just an FYI.

FYI, be especially careful when transporting it across the border into/out of Canada.
I just tried to order a new rifle scope a couple of nights ago from Cabelas on-line store, and the order came back as being "illegal... order declined".
Turns out that the rifle scope was filled with Nitrogen to eliminate fogging/etc., and DHS has deemed it illegal to transport them over the border into Canada because they are filled with compressed gasses.
I even called up the phone sales guy and asked him, and he said "yep, illegal to ship you a scope".
We both agreed it was stupid, but it is what it is.

Wow thats news to me. Have been doing it for 4 years and never knew anything about it. It looks like they classify it as a compresses gas which is a class 2. I found some info on this site..

not sure if it varies by state or not.

What's interesting is I can carry a propane tank in my trailer with no documentation (because it is sold in retain markets for individual use), but not a nitrogen cylinder (because it is not sold in retail markets)
