Speed was doing some dyno testing on big 60's engines and the dodge was the big winner with about ~750 hp.

Since we don't have any PCA race results, you might look to see if SCCA races there. A well driven GT3 would probably be close to a Z06 in T1. At least Fast Freddy was at Mid Ohio.

I thought my 996 GT3 was faster than a T1 C5 Vette at VIR. Maybe the guys were not very good drivers. I will try and see what SCCA results I can find.

Not an exact science but look at results from the Run Offs, the best of the best are there.
In my experience a well driven T1 Z06 is pretty close to a GT3. Slight edge to the Z06 on hp and torque, to the GT3 on cornering and braking.

a car cant do 1:57 at VIR and not have Awesome brakes!! Did you notice how that thing came down from 170+mph? Its got a lot of HP and everything else. Its a BEAST . That was cool to watch. Racing pornography!
I think i timed 60-100mph in less than 3 seconds!

Larry:
That post was made after I had driven my friend's 2001 cup car. It was the first time ever for me in a cup car and I got about 5 laps in.
I am fully confident that the top few club guys could do a 1:57 in a good 996 cup and a low 1:55 in a 7 Cup. I only wish PCA could get a race there for all of us to have fun.

the best the top 996 guys could run in Grand AM Koni was 2:04
in the Rolex class, more like 2:00 and those are pure GT3Cup cars, not street GTS.
Speed world challenge runs near 1:57ish and those are GT3 cup cars with the engine upgrades to almost GT3RS.
so, a street GT3 would no way run under 2:00. Just look at the top pros that took a street GT3 out to laguna Seca on DOTs. they ran 1:39.xx. (almost the same as the Koni cup guys in the slighly modified 996s) for comparison, speedgT gets in the 1:30.xx's and supercup gets in the 1:32s.
from what i have seen and some have already prooved, a speed GT GT3 runs about 1-2 seconds faster than the supercup challenge GT3s, and they both run near 5-7 seconds faster than the Koni cup 996s, which seem to be just as fast as a street GT3 with a pro driver on DOTs.

So the assumption is that a FULLY SETUP street 7GT3 with slicks would do a 2 flat? Just to be clear. Basically a totally tracked out (suspension upgrades, etc.) 7GT3 on fresh slicks for that one golden lap is what is being hypothesized???? My thoughts is that is only going to come from a pro driver that is given carte blanche to do with car anything to get that 2 flat (ie, not liable for damage).

Thanks for that clarification Greg. I guess I should clarify "pro" a little better. When I mean pro, I mean mean somebody that is a "pro" behind the wheel but not necessarily somebody whom cashes a paycheck for driving. There are obviously more talented drivers that spots available on the major tours.

I am sorry for all this commotion.
A 997 GT3 street car 1) with a good driver 2) on a fresh set of Michelin slicks 3) with no passenger 4) with a proper track alignment and 5) with a reasonably good track suspension
will do a 2:00 something at VIR.
Add 1.5 seconds for a 996 GT3.
Add another 2 seconds for a 180 lb passenger
Add another 1.5 to 2 seconds for running non optimal tires
I am not sure why it is such a leap to expect a 2:00 when you are seeing a 2:05 in a 6GT3 with two people (and probably without a fresh set of michelins slicks)
I dont think the 2:00 would even need to be on the golden lap (which by the way at VIR is lap 3 or 4, or 5 on a cool day) but would need to be on the first cycle of the tire.
Regarding being "Fully Setup" of course that is what I mean, even a cup car not set up properly will have a tough time getting under 2:00.
Maybe we should start a bench racing forum, that would be fun!
