Hans.. who wears it?
#31
I only wear it when I am in the car.....I bought one in 2002 right before trying to push a concrete wall away from the track at Road Atlanta. I am glad I had made the purchase the week before. I does not feel right when I drive now if I do not have it on I have gotten so used to it.

I don't want to turn this into another H&N comparison, but I wear my R3 all the time when on track, especially when I instruct students. I bought them for all 3 of my boys and they won't drive without it either.

I have never understood drivers who do not buy the absolutely best safety equipment. Especially that thing you put your head in ..in the grand scheme , compared to what we spend on the cars or a race weekend, it is cheap insurance... I have a Hans and will not drive without it .

I had a camp counseler once when I was a kid at a YMCA camp in Ohio. A camper did something dangerous and dumb one night, and the counseler asked him a very simple question: "Don't you like living"?

Absolutely yes every time I drive my car on the track. I crashed with it on. A four wheel drift into a wall. Felt the Hans restrain me as I hit sideways. Crawled out the passenger window. No pain except for $, and no car while the side of my car was being brought back to "new".
I too dislike being in a student's car without it, so I use a neck collar which probably won't be much help.

I wear one 100% when in harness equipped cars and I use the pads that came with it. I though it was going to be something I would have to work at to get used to it and that it was going to be annoying at least. I was wrong, 1/2 a lap later and chasing some one forgot all about it. Now it just feels "right". I sometimes unhook the inside strap so I can check my "6" when in the paddock.

I actually went through a "fitting" this past week at VIR so I know what size and angle to purchase. That is my next mod. Just so happens that we had 2 really bad incidents that basically kicked me off the fence from not sure to definitely buying. Cheap insurance for the noggin'

Yep!
I get lazy sometimes, but I don't feel right without it.
I don't know how anyone could possibly wear a HANS without pads. When I get cinched in, it is quite uncomfortable... until I get out on track and get busy. Then I forget about it. I do not have insignificant Trapezius muscles, but even with the padding (mine & HANS), it hurts all the hard points on my shoudlers as well as the muscles.
My opinion is that if you can wear a HANS with no pad, your belts are too damn loose!
