It was tough for some of the White drivers suddenly mixed with Reds / Racers. There were some people near me in the garage that simply didn't go out on the track because of the "Swarm" of Cup Cars that came into Saucers. Once Marty and the other organizers had a serious talking to us Thursday morning, things got much better... Until the afternoon when things got dicey again in saucers. I felt bad enough running 2:17s in saucers and passing some cars 2 or 3 times in a session - but I did it very courteously and held back until a good spot to pass. I think the thing that made many saucers nervous (enough to sit in the garage instead of going on the track) was when some Cups would close so fast and get so close to bumpers that it was a new experience (something they never saw in White at a regular DE).

As one of the slower drivers (2:22's) I can tell you that part of the problem was that there were some cars out there that didn't belong in white, let alone this event. I was amazed at the lack of awareness from a couple of saucer drivers. The closing speed wasn't a problem if you were looking in your mirrors. The big difference was you had to be looking in your mirrors A LOT given the high closing speed of the cups. I think the problem guys had was that they didn't realize how quickly the cups could catch them in the short straights. You could exit a turn like T8 and look in your mirror and not see anyone and the next thing you know there are three cups on your tail by the braking zone at T8. In the front straight, I would brake at start finish and let the pack sail by before T1. I think you had to be aware and do some different things to adapt to the situation. If you are a saucers driver and really focused on driving the line and not completely aware of what was going on around you, it could be tough.

Most of the drivers were pretty aware, and I tried not to venture out in the saucers too much, but there were definitely some drivers who had no business being out there with the cups. It seemed like it was the same 1/2 dozen cars, and they didn't appear to "get it" over the course of 2 days of holding everyone up. I guess it comes with the territory, but if it truely is a drivers ed event, then they should learn this.
BTW it was very nice to meet everyone, and I could barely keep track of all of the Rennlisters who came up to say HI. Thanks, and I hope to see some of you again at the Club Race in 2 weeks.
And Geoffrey's car is as awesome in person as it is in the pics, and Joel Rieser is a great guy to have in the pits as well as at the bar!

Part of the problem was the weather. As soon as the good runs started happening every car in the paddock was on the track. Often times, for back to back sessions.
