Default The Problem with 13 / 13

You know, I was OK with the idea of 13/13 because I knew it wouldn't ever apply to me, right? Wrong! Two seemingly outside of my control events puts me out for the year and a month. So, what do I deal with? I have been reading the Sebring posts and seeing the pictures. Crap! Bad year to miss. I wasn't in the C3/C4 group picture, I wasn't in the 60+ cup car field. I wasn't rolling around the paddock area catching up with all you guys. It's amazing how much like a "family" the race teams are and you don't know it until you are put out.

Yeah, there are other racing options out there and I've participated in a big one last month but the 48 Hours at Sebring is PCA Super Bowl. Well, I'll stay in practice and my sentence will be up in time for me to come back to Sebring next year... If they will have me. You know, they think I'm an unsafe driver and I need to cool off. Crud!

You were definitely missed. Looking forward to next year already. We'll see you there.

Hey Mac, It just wasn't the same without you. Are going to do some other series for the time being, HSR, GrandAm...? Take Care.

Ah Phil, did your Dad behave this time or was he his usual? Also, did you bring the fleet and how did you guys do? Didn't I see the blue/red car in one of the posts?
Grand Am yes. Did Daytona. Looking at VIR.
PBOC has races at Sebring this year too.
HSR, they let Cup cars in but 2003 is the cut off. Mine is 2005.
Don't worry though, I'm not going to get rusty and give your Dad bragging opportunities about beating those mean old cup cars!

Mac sorry you could not make it. It was a great weekend all around.

I may jump in for the Grand Am race at VIR, have not decided yet, so maybe I will see you there.

BTW I want some Michelin stock after seeing all the smoke pouring off of the 997 tires!

He sold the white 993 cup, old blue isn't going anywhere, neither is the new black car. If you remeber I had a "driver induced engine malfunction" in the black car at Daytona during the enduro. We put the motor back in last week, but during practice one of the valve guides was hanging up, so we parked it.

Seeing as how Jack got a 13 last year at Sebring he wanted to air on the side of caution, so I ran old blue in class and Brad ran it out of class. I had a bit of a fender bender during the practice race and had replace an oil cooler but eventually got it going and took the win in GTC2 although our times were way off from years past. Shake and Bake!

Mr. Brown; I see my record on head to head with you in the "big" races is still intact. Good thing I wasn't there this year for that reason. You really know how to wring everything out of that "old" car of yours. Great run. Yeah, I've raced the 997 at Daytona and you have to be REALLY careful braking. The brakes are outstanding...they are just better than our feeble brain can work without some careful practice. Imagine all the smoke on Hoosiers which are required in Grand Am. I think that's about $2,000 a flat spot!

Cooleyjb; USERA, I had to look that one up. Don't know about them but with PBOC and Grand Am, my schedule may be full anyway.

Phil; "If you aren't first, you're last!"

The problem with the 13/13 is that it gives out the same penalty for minor contact with a tire wall as it does for a truely boneheaded move that takes out two or more cars.

Example from this weekend: Guy touches the wall, no damage to his car, small scratch. He is out.

In the sprint race with the Cup cars. A guy gets hit in the back quarter as he is going into turn 7 (hairpin) and is drilled by another guy. Car is hit hard enough that it flips over twice and a red flag is thrown. The hitter did this under a local yellow to make things even worse, also it was after the checker had been thrown, they had one more lap to complete before they saw the checker. Also the guy goes back to his pit and his crew is trying to cover this up by changing out his bumper, class acts, eh? Apparently there was no concern for the other driver or his well being. That guy should be banned from PCA in my opinion. Drivers make mistakes but we should all be gentlemen and stand up for what we did and not try to hide from our mistakes.
