OK first let me say that, TD I appreciate your intent.
That snippet was what was repeated in various exclusions.
The entire text under exclusions is:

13. Loss to "your covered auto" or any "non-owned auto," located inside a facility designed for racing, for the purpose of:

a. competing in; or

b. Practicing or preparing for;

any prearranged or organized racing or speed contest.

Thanks Dan.

OK, I see where you are coming from now. Yeah, they might fight you on it but you could probably win . . . "contest" is the saving grace when read in context.

That said, I would strongly recommend track insurance. I don't like to think that I could potentially risk my ability to satisfy a legal requirement (without paying an outrageous price) simply due to my hobby.

I self insure on the 944. When I let myself out of the HP gutter, I will probably buy track insurance again.

WOW check this out.

They just sent me the above in the policy for next year.
I also just added a vehicle and buried about 10 pages deep under

AUTOMOBILE AMENDATORY ENDORSEMENT

IV. PART D-COVERAGE FOR DAMAGE TO YOUR AUTO

E. Exclusion 13, is replaced by the following:

13. Loss to your covered auto or any non-owned auto while the car is being used for:

a. competing in; or

b. practicing or preparing for

any organized racing, speed, demolition, stunt or performance contest or related activity whether or not for pay.

Hummm... I don't think I like the "related activity" part

I just recieved my policy renewal for State Farm in the mail today. The following is their exclusion included with this renewal.

"The exclusion regarding racing and speed contests has been changed to state that there is no coverage while a vehicle is:

a. off public roads and being prepared for, used in practice for , or operated in any racing, speed, hill-climbing, jumping, or similar contest; or

b. on a track designed primarily for racing or high-speed driving"

Yes. that's how I initially [mis]read the other policy. Defining in terms of place is very clever by the insurance companies.

I think this meant to cover drifting.

Well I guess there is some room for debate.

Is me driving my car around a race track a "related activity" to racing......wait let me rephrase that.

Is a Driver Education Event a "related activity" to a prearanged speed contest?

I think the general concensus would be that with enough "persuasion" you could probably get your insurance company to cover you once. After that, I would doubt it. But why would you take a chance? Get track insurance and be done with it, or use a car that you don't mind giving to the racing gods.

Other than Laurel DE, which has some issues, I know of no track insurance available for DE. Insurance for racing is available, and it is expensive, but no DE.

My interest was piqued when I learned that my American Collectors DE Ins would not be renewed as of August.

Default Laurel DE Insurance??

Has anyone actually signed up with Laurel DE Insurance? I'm going Thunderhill on Nov. 17 for a DE event but I'd like to get DE insurance if possible.

I contacted Laurel DE and received the the following:

"This Policy provides coverage only for PCA DE Events and Club DE Events that operate using the same format as PCA DE Events. This Policy DOES NOT COVER Test & Tune Days, Open Track Days or Racing of any kind. Covered days are per car per designated driver and in accordance with Schedule "A" of the Certificate (i.e. two (2) drivers sharing one (1) car on one (1) calendar day = two (2) insured days)."

I also found that Laurel DE based out of Canada.

Laurel DE Management
7570 Talbot Trail
Blenheim, Ontario
CANADA, N0P 1A0

The acutal insurance company is Pacific Insurance Corporation.

Here is what is at the back end of the policy info they sent me.

THE COVER THAT YOU ARE REQUESTING TO PURCHASE IS BEING ISSUED BY AN INSURANCE COMPANY THAT IS NOT LICENSED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA OR CANADA. THIS COMPANY IS CALLED A “NON-ADMITTED” OR “SURPLUS LINES” INSURER.

THIS INSURANCE COMPANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE FINANCIAL SOLVENCY REGULATIONS AND ENFORCEMENTS WHICH APPLY TO STATE, U.S. OR CANADIAN LICENSED COMPANIES.

THIS INSURANCE COMPANY DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE INSURANCE GUARANTEE FUNDS CREATED BY STATE, U.S. AND CANADIAN LAW. THEREFORE, THESE FUNDS WILL NOT PAY YOUR CLAIM OR PROTECT YOUR ASSETS IF THE INSURANCE COMPANY BECOMES INSOLVENT AND IS UNABLE TO MAKE PAYMENTS AS PROMISED.

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE AGENT/BROKER, “SURPLUS LINE” BROKER, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE OR PROVINCIAL INSURANCE COMMISSION.

David at Laurel DE said that there are a few options for coverage. They are as follows:

10 DE track days- about $1000
20 DE track days- about $1300 (I'll verify this)
30 DE track days- about $1500 (I'll verify this)

This is for $40K worth of coverage.

I heard that there are some issues with Luarel DE and I'd like to know what those issues are before sending them any money. Any help/input would be greatly appreciated.
