I understand it is basically a replacement for the RA1, but Toyo isn't currently planning on bringing it into the US for marketing reasons. Too bad, because they make it in 285/30-18 unlike the RA1.

According to the Available Sizes chart accessible HERE , that size is not yet available, but at least it is planned. That would be nice!

The problem is that the RA1 is the spec tire for several racing series. I guess the better question would be when are those contracts up?

I haven't tired recently, but I have heard the RA1 is becoming very hard to find, most dealers are "back ordered", at least the for common 17s. That could mean they have stopped making them and that the R888 is on its way.

They're available over here in Europe in most Porsche sizes 225/235/285/295 about 30% cheaper than Michelin's... and everyone is raving about them as they seem to last longer than the MPSC and performance is very similar although some say they to go off (overheat) a bit earlier than the Cups.

It's normal to find that certain sizes are hard to find this time of year given that we're now in the middle of track season. I dont think Toyo has any plans this year to phase out the RA-1 this year - I just wish they made them in the sizes I needed.

I think a recent thread here on rennlist suggest that the RA-1s are about 1 second slower than MPSC, but last a lot longer.

Jamie, Whoever may have said that see things quite a bit differnently than I do. I love the Toyo's they are extremely consistent form the 1st time out to the very last ( usually abot 50 heat cycles) The MPSC's I found to not only be inconsistent, but they would also slide and grip and slide and grip again... My confidence was on Toyo's, I am trying Hoosiers this weekend forthe club race, my expectations are high, I hope they deliver. I also hope for dry weather. The R888 has been out in Europe since last year with great reviews.

I was referring to Toyo's 888 not the RA-1's, I never tried RA-1's actually I don't think they're available in Europe at all.

RA-1s are not available in Europe, and they are now substituted by R 888s which are available in Europe, but... not the US...
