I was delighted when Lando won his first race this year... it is always special seeing a driver's first F1 win. Next up on my personal list of drivers I am hoping to see break through was Oscar, as I really rate him and like his chill demeanor.
So, although I was happy to see Oscar pick up the win, the way in which it happened was unsatisfying, and I think the team 100% messed that up.
Oscar was faster early in the race, and Lando had received the preferred strategy for both stops (i.e., two undercuts), so it would also have been unsatisfying if he had won. It was lose-lose and it just didn't need to be. Lewis was no threat at all and the team could have given Oscar the stop first and let things play out.

Also, I am really become a fan of GP (Max's race engineer). It has become SOP for drivers to complain over the team radio for every infraction (real or perceived). It's not just Max, many of the drivers lately have been doing this. Is it actually more than before or is it just that the radio broadcasts picked to share are more often these type? Not sure, but I loved GP's pushback that he was not going to get into that kind of argument!
Although some people paint it as a bad thing, I find the (often brutal) direct exchanges between Max and JP a sign of a very open and honest working relationship.

Really wild quali. Hope the race is even close to that level.

Well, we all know what that is. It's never happened to me, of course...

I think when I bored during the summer break I'm going to go back and "watch" the race on F1TV from both Lando's and Max's in car just to listen to the radio messages...

Yes, in the pre-race, Rosberg called Max "unprofessional" for SIM racing, which I thought was pretty shocking. Krofty and Martin must have mentioned it 3 times during the race. Meanwhile, Max SIM raced at Imola and won the race and then decided to not SIM race at a subsequent race because he thought he had to focus on the race at hand. The Brits are clutching their pearls as if Max was out at the nightclub drinking and dancing until 3 AM where in fact he's actually in his hotel room doing something related to racing, albeit not a direct SIM for his F1 car. He's a 3 time, soon to be 4 time World Champion who hates to lose.... I'm pretty sure Max is going to do what is best for his chances to win on Sunday. He not winning the race yesterday had nothing to do with his Sim racing but rather the McLaren's simply being a better car.
Damon Hill also criticized Max and said he owed an apology to his Engineer; but there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of that occurring.

Oscar definitely gives off those Kimi "Ice Man" vibes.
Very understated and chill.
Or maybe he's actually giving Participation Trophy vibes?

Oscar is pretty chill. He wasn't yelling and fist bumping after getting his first win. Shame that there is a damper on what should have been an emotional high. McLaren messed this up. They told Oscar not to worry when they brought Lando in first and that he would get the position back. Oscar has been a good team player, and will reciprocate when needed later this season. I see Lando's point and I think if he was less than 40 points behind Max, they would have left him in the lead. He messed up the start and fell to third. I do feel that Lando should have just given it back sooner, then raced Oscar to the end. Slowing so drastically on the front straight wasn't the way to handle it.

Agreed, but it was performative in front of the team stands, that's the exclamation point Lando wanted to send. To be expected after the botch by the team.

The initial team radio telling Lando to relinquish the position at his convenience perked up my ears… we all know how these drivers will interpret that 😂

Excellent points. But I think Lando would have been pitching the same fit had roles been reversed. I am sure it crossed his mind that the call to bring him in first was going to screw Oscar. If the season continues on it's current tragectory, Lando is going to need Oscar to play defense for him at some point to keep Max or Lewis off his back, so this was a small concession to make now in the interest of playing the long game.
