Vision and Car Control
#77
I don't have money like you guys. I've offered the challenges that I can afford. Step up or step off please. I am open to your ideas. You guys are welcome to sit in the car with me too, but I haven't pushed that because I know that's likely past your comfort zone. Your closed minds have already blinded yourselves to the most important thing, which was made clear on page 1:
Post a video of what you think is a hot lap.... we can all try and help find ways you might be able to go faster, and we all like watching driving videos... so, its a " win win" as you say!

Mike (OP), thanks for the great post. I need to work on vision much more myself! I will put it into practice next time I'm out on the track. Thank you! And my apologies in advance for the following:
Pho King Confucious, you profess that you've reached this nth degree of enlightenment and driving nirvana (with accompanying videos of sketchy driving). Yet when asked for experience and provenance, the best you can come up with - we are led to believe - is from watching youtube videos and doing donuts in your 1996 Toyota Camry??? Your "proof" being that you'll "battle" anyone at the next red light for pink slips???
Why don't you go to WGI and post up some lap times with accompanying video... in your PDK....... with steering wheel buttons....... that will say something... I guess (?). Oh, your excuse is that you don't have money like "us"?? Well, here's an idea: get a Spec Miata and show us what you can do at WGI. Rent one if you must. Kibort is too kind; my guess is you'll be mid-pack AT BEST. Prove us wrong, we're all waiting! Since you brought up the "I don't have money" excuse, I've given you a perfect option to prove us wrong!

OP - Agree 100% Coming from the bike world where target fixation is certain disaster often find my students and myself forgetting how far ahead I should be looking.
Fast - I have to admit I fall in the camp of not necessarily understanding your driving / learning style. I think you have better than most car control but I don't think that necessarily equates to being the best or fastest. Most creep up on the limit slowly and have small events here or there where they step over the limit and learn from them. It seems you intentionally step over the limit everywhere and you're controlling it nicely but I'm not sure you really understand why the car is so easily over that limit. My personal opinion is there are plenty of places where you are over the limit with no need due to lack of contact patch management. I'd love to see a quick session from you driving at 9 - 9.5/10ths the whole time to really display what you're learned and showing you can put it into practice. From your warm up laps in your video I don't doubt that you can do it but I've just never seen it as you quickly go to driving over the limit.
Come to the Glen with Metro NY on 8/25-27. I believe there are still spots open. Take the opportunity to embrace your learning style and post a hot lap by the end of the weekend. I've only been there once but with your accelerated learning style you should catch up quickly. We can see if my 13 year old technology and old school learning style can be a match for your modern vehicle and learning style.
We can both post our laps after the event and let the coaches here decide who did it better ???

Potentially great discussion topic shot straight to hell...
Like I give a crap about how Faux King dodges trees at NYST in a thread about vision.
