He was sporting a very interesting T-shirt during the 991 GT3 RS presentation.

" Mr Hatz
I am sorry I was wrong about the 918.
You sold them all!

Chris Harris. "

The reference goes back to early 2013 when Chris Harris (and many others) doubted that Porsche could sell 918 examples of its Hybrid Super Car. Evidence of his Chris Harris' skepticism can be found on this video:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11305155...8-spyder-video

After Chris Harris drove the 918 again later that year in Spain during the official press rides, he had come away pretty damn impressed! And many of the doubts he previously had expressed about the 918 started to disappear!

http://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/...8-spyder/29071

In January of 2015, Chris Harris wrote an article that explained the improvements (mostly software) on the 918 that had been brought about on that model in less than a year after its initial release:

There he tackles head-on the fact that he had questioned Dr. Hatz on whether Porsche could sell all 918 copies of the vehicle:

"What a car the 918 has turned out to be. I foolishly suggested to Dr Hatz, boss of Porsche’s R&D department, that he’d never sell 918 units of such a car. Well, they just sold out. And I can see why."

As an independent journalist that makes a living doing these reviews, Chris is very tuned to the sensibilities of the manufacturers...if not their 'egos'. He wanted to get this humble-pie message across to Porsche...and what better way than to advertise it in a custom made t-shirt expressly done for the test drive!

Eduardo

It is one of two special colors debuted in the 991 gt3 RS. It's called 'Ultraviolet' and it was formulated using as a starting base the historic vintage early 911 color called 'Royal Purple' (some called it 'Lilac' in the period), color code 341. It was not often ordered...thus it's rather rare!

Similarly the other special color for the RS is called 'Lava Orange', and it's derived from the 'Blutorange / Tangerine' of the same period, color code 018. Unlike 'Royal Purple', 'Tangerine' was one of the most popular colors of Porsches in that early period! The new paint formulations are a few shades off (on purpose) from the originals and thus required new 'color names' and new 'color codes'.

I have been saying for a while now that 'Ultraviolet' will be the most memorable & least ordered of the colors for the 991 gt3 RS. Thus it would be the most valuable as a collector car down the road! 'Ultraviolet' would be the color I would choose had I been able to get a 991 gt3 RS allocation!

Eduardo

Eduardo, I hope we meet one day at a bar (Seneca Lodge at Watkins Glen seems fitting...) and I will buy your beers and enjoy listening to you explain the simplest things in the most elegant fashion...

Please bring an iPad so that you can display the appropriate images mid-explanation!
