CGT Prices

while I agree the CGT is a wonderful machine to be honest out of all the car I have sold I miss it the least, actually not at all. for me, I just don't have the type of roads around me to enjoy the machine to more than 1/10th of its potential was a caged beast that needed to be let free. now my 94 turbo S package car, or mexico blue gt3 2010, or RUF 993 TT these are all cars I miss.

It was built by a racing team that didn't care about costs of changing the battery 20,000 clutch they simply assumed that there were enough Porsche enthusiasts that desired something special.
They were wrong the market wasn't ready - today it's there and it's one of the most rewarding driver cars ever built. The cars you mention are variations nothing like the creation of the CGT as great as the ones mentioned are it's an entirely different league of automotive history well deserved of a super car status.
Talked to plenty of guys that have let their CGT's go and they reflect your thoughts I simply disagree and that's why there are so many CGT owners that do not own other P cars.

Makes sense - but no one ever claimed the super car CGT as a daily driver.

Many things we do or have aren't practical, such as skydiving, but it sure is fun.

Truthfully, I never thought of Mecum as the right venue for these types of cars.
Useful data though, for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Over 900k for a 900 mile car seems fair.
But it seems the market is on a downward trend, also with the fact that there are quite a few up for sale.
With the economy and the bubble it does seem the prices have to stabilize at some point.

I still think there is some added value in purchasing from an individual, preferably the original owner, who knows the whole history of the car, has all the documentation, the luggage, spare seat cushions , etc. it's also better to look for one that has been driven, preferably 20 miles a week or so. Oh wait, I just described my car. Still bargained priced at $758,000.

As others here have stated, the wrong venue to sell these cars - both location and auctioneer.
There are better examples of the CGT at the Scottsdale auctions this week, I think they will provide a better snapshot of today's market.

Mecum has been selling FGT's for the last few years with great results, as well as, losts of 911's. Just recently they have been selling Ferrari's and exotics outside of their Monterey auctions. Yes, if I had a CGT to sell I would not sell at Mecum. RM or Gooding would be my choice, but keep in mind 10% seller/buyer premium is gonna be close to $100k for each side on these cars.
