Default Revised tire sizes for Pirelli Slicks

Got the following information from PCA on the revised tires sizes for GTC3, 4, & 5.

After receiving feedback from PCA racers, JX2 and Pirelli recommend the sizes below for GTC3, 4 and 5. These sizes will be the spec tire for 2014:

GTC 3 & GTC 4

Part Number----------------Tire Size
Front Slick 2015300-------245/645-18 DH
Rear Slick 2090800-------305/680-18 DH

GTC5

Part Number----------------Tire Size
Front Slick 2128700-------275/645-18 DH
Rear Slick 2128600-------315/680-18 DH

Btw,
I love the Pirelli ad a spec tire, long lived, quick and durable.
Should be very positive change as a club spec tire...

I could not fit Hoosier 305 on the rear of my '08 997, hope the Pirelli is narrower.

We run the 305 Pirelli in the cayman interseries so I would think it would fit gen 1 997 cup. Guess we will find out soon enough

I've been on the fence about buying a 6 Cup but this spec tire thing really puts a damper on things.
I've got connections that allow me to buy Yokes or Hoosiers at a discount ( and possibly winning some with NASA ) which really helps keep things somewhat affordable for me but making it mandatory to buy an expensive slick seems un American.
If the purpose of a spec tire is to level the playing field why not choose a less expensive option for everyone. What difference does it make if you run the 1500.00 Toyo's or the 2600.00 Michelins ? As long at the cheaper tire is safe, has decent grip, and will last as long if not longer than the more expensive one.

Some how I see politics rearing it's ugly head here ....

6 Cup is awesome but running the spec tire is expensive, acquisition and short duration of optimal grip. Did I say I love driving a Cup? I do.

Talking to guys that have used Pirelli, it seems that the new deal will offer a really good value. I don't think Toyo or Hoosier tires would be a better value. Yokos should have been considered, as it’s a good tire with a great contingency program with NASA.

Can anyone offer buying experiences from JX2 recently? Are they keeping tires in stock and available? Did they settle on pricing? (IOW - are we still paying the PCA premium for Pirelli DH tires?) Have to take the plunge in the next few weeks prior to my first race at College Station in mid-March. Just trying to be slightly pro-active.

Toby
