Hello, I'm new here!
I have a 997 Cup car. I have about 4 events in the car and I'm still getting used to sequential shifter. My question is that i'm getting two very different suggestion on how to downshift from my driving coaches. One is light blip and the other is solid blip. Rational behind light blip is I do not want to hit the rev limiter as i downshift. Rational for hard blip is I do not want to lock up the rears in case insufficient rev matching.
For all of you experienced in sequentials gearboxes out there, do you have any suggestions? Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you!
John

I find that advice a bit odd myself.
My blips are as hard or as soft as I need them to simply insure a smooth match when releasing the clutch.
My goal is to make transition to the lower gear is seamless with only a change in sound. I don't want to feel anything at all.
Curious if others feel the same as I do. This is also how I was taught many years ago.

My experience is that a pretty hard blip is required since the flywheel is so light the revs drop quickly. Note that this applies to a downshift at a time when the new gear selected will be in the meat of the power-band as you'd expect on a race track.

Pay close attention to the rev counter on the series of downshifts at the 1:57 mark. With each lower gear the "strength" of the blip increases to achieve the revs needed for a seamless transition every time the clutch is released.
That is what I thought the original question was. Hard or soft.
Or did I misunderstand?

great advice mike. it makes even more sense now now that you described it with video. forgot to consider rate of rpm drop at lower gears are faster than higher gear. just need to get back on the car soon and start practicing again! hope i don't make any more flat spots on my michelins...

a lot of Porsche Motorsport official team on RSR and Cup use the "trottle control system" ...
a "wire" that connect the gear level to the trottle padal : when you downshift the trottle pedal goes down ..
Porsche tells that the % of gas must be 28 % ,and the trottle system is adjustable ...
