here's update! sorry no post in a while. after long winter, march was my first track day. i went for zone 2 event and had chance to test out the manthes throttle control. over the winter i also installed bosch abs and taller uprights and front cf splitter so there were a lot of changes in my car. but one thing i really like that i felt the difference immediately was the manthes "auto blipper". it works awesome. it's so simple it's amazing how other people didn't think of it. essentially it looks like a kick drum pedal set up against little flange you install lateral to the accelerator pad.

in driving, all you do is step on the break and down shift without heel to toe. it matches rev perfect. it feels like totally cheating but it works great. i no longer spin the rears while i down shift. i highly recommend it!

Interesting, so it's a MECHANICAL system that links only to the brake pedal, not the shifter? So any time you press the brake pedal it will blip the throttle? How about if you need to go down 3 gears while braking?

actually it's mechanical system that links mechanically to the shifter column to the accelerator. actually what moves the accelerator is little round washer that hits the accelerator pad as you down shift. so it only respond to the shifter lever as you move down the gear! very clever.

so break has nothing to do with the blipping.

Here's a short clip on how our racecar blips for you on both up and downshifts -- you'll see the blipping at about 12 seconds into the video

Why would you want a blip on the upshift? It would seem to be counter-productive to me, can you give me a bit more information on why this might be beneficial?

Thanks

We asked the same question to both engine manufacturers, but was met with just a smile There is a reason they blip upon upshift.

Is the upshift blip in conjunction with a fuel cut? That would help the engine slow down more, but why?

Blipping has always been about matching revs. It applies for both downshifting and upshifting.

Yes, but what do you need to match revs with when accelerating?
