Default How far can you push Boxter S engine?

I am looking for a project car for pain track fun, and at this point a used last generation Boxster S looks like the best candidate for my criteria. My main hesitation is that there may be not much room for tinkering and further improvement, especially in the engine area, as it's pretty aggressively tuned from the factory. Is that so? What HP and torque improvements can you expect staying within 4 figures?

Anything over 300 BHP from that 3.2 will require forced in induction and I would not ask it to make 400 HP for long.

Actually, I meant the 2009 model which has 3.4l and 310HP from factory (the last, meaning the latest, not one before current). I would not want to go the forced induction way though.

If you are referring to the 91A, the successor to the M96, nobody knows what that will do as its literally brand new this year.

The M96 was tested to destruction so the limits are well known,...

I gather that you established the Boxter engine had major limitations anyway Steve? The destruction may have happened without too much pushing....

LOL,..Nossir,...several bone-stock, low mile engines were turbocharged/supercharged to see what their mechanical limits were on an engine dyno.

While these are smooth-running and reasonably powerful engines, they do not compare in durability to the GT-1 based engine used in the Twin-Turbo & GT-3's, much less any air-cooled motor,...

Thats an understatement lol.

If your going to track a car I would either get the latest Cayman "S" since its a better structure for track days....or a GT3 (if budget allows)..or Air Cooled 911 of any vintage.

Check out TPC Racing. They have the most successful turbo made specifically for that engine. And the turbo has been hugely successful with almost no problems whatsoever.

Well, I suppose if you set the engine on a roller dolly, you can push it pretty far. Other than that, I don't think you'll be able to push it more than an inch or so...
