971 Panamera Transmission Fault
#16
Update: the dealer reset the DME and PDK software. They said this is the recommendation from Porsche right now, so followed protocol and would not consider taking further steps unless it happens again.
Car is running fine, but we’ll see if this fix sticks, will post updates if it pops up again.

Just got mine back from the dealer. They replaced the mechatronics unit, so it is currently in adaptation mode. Although I have a 2018 (Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo), it didn't go into service until July 2019, so everything was covered under warranty (thankfully!). Hopeful that replacing the mech unit resolves the issue once and for all.

My hunch is that the unit is where the real problem lies and the error code is surfacing the problem, albeit in an imprecise way with the “reverse gear unavailable” message.
To the dealer it sounds like a software error because we’re getting an error about reverse gear while driving in forward and the error is resolved immediately by a reboot. So, naturally they want to apply a software fix.
But, as we’re all seeing, this issue is recurring on cars and the shifting units are known to be complicated with many many points of potential failure.

Hello - I have the same issue.
The same error appeared on mine (Panamera 971 4s 2018) a month ago. After updating and resetting the PDK it worked just temporarily until it appeared again.
I was told by the dealer that they will replace the valves block if the initial fix did not last.
I am now waiting for the part to arrive at the dealer and get installed.
Luckily I have bought extended warranty - I do not want to imagine how much this would cost.

Yeah there is zero chance of me owning my Sport Turismo 4S past March 2025 without another equally stellar extended service plan, equal to my factory warranty.
These transmissions are very expensive.

FYI this is being discussed in the following thread as well: https://rennlist.com/forums/panamera...anamera-2.html
Seems to be happening to lots of 2018 Panameras

Just happened to me this morning on my 2018 Turbo ST with 28,920km on the clock in Dubai.
Similar situation as others, I had traveled for a couple of days, so car was stationary for 3 days, error flashed as soon as I exited my drive way, car was stuck in 3rd gear the whole drive to drop off my son at nursery 15km away (~9 miles). It was the first time it had ever occurred with me, so with my 2.5yr old in tow I wasn't ready to experiment and switch off the car in case we might get stranded. I switched off/restarted the car upon reaching my destination and all was fine. Popped into the dealer down the road and they did a PDK reset. Let's see, I'll be following this thread closely. Good luck to all and thank G*d for the extended warranty!

Looks like this thread fell off in August. Has anyone had the valve body replaced and it correctly and permanently fixed the issue? Has anyone found someone that will rebuild and service the valve body?

Same happened to me this morning. Car sat overnight and after driving for 1-2 mins the fault appeared. Parked and restarted car and fault cleared. Have a 2018 Turbo ST
