This just happened to me this week. Had to turn it off and back on again- I got the yellow warning like ckelly001. 2018 CPO. Only happened once. If it happens again I'll take it in and hopefully the dealer knows about the issue and can update the software.

Default Just happened to me

I backed out the garage and put it in Sport+ mode. It went straight to 3rd and would not come out and got that error. Switched it to Normal mode and it acted as if it had a hard time getting power to the engine so I switched it back to Sport+ and it stayed in 3rd gear. Shut the car off and started it back up and works fine. SMH

I received the error today. While driving at 60MPH on the highway, I went WOT to pass a vehicle and the power dropped off at the same time the error appeared. My 4S kept skipping gears until I parked it and turned off the engine. When I restarted it few a minutes later, the error was gone and shifts were fine.

This is the third time this has happened in 2 years and both times it was during a WOT pass on the highway.

The last two visits to the local Porsche store ended with, "We don't see any issues. Let us know if it happens again."

Report it to nhsta. If they get enough of these complaints they will investigate and Porsche will have to come up with a solution

Ive had this come up a few times and took to the dealer. The dealer just pulled the faults and repaired it. They quoted me 6700 and I just received a bill for $8500. Im a bit disappointed in the situation and the expense for repairing this problem.

This happened to the 11' base model today, the transmission failure light.restarted it and that light went away only to be replaced by the check engine light.Thats the one that's on now. Getting towed to the Porsche dealership tomorrow morning. Had it serviced by an independent shop last week maby thats part of the issue. Frustrating.

So glad to have found this thread..

My 2018 Panamera 4S is recently out of warranty and I’m also getting the “Transmission error / Reverse gear not available” message every few days. It happens when I’m about 1-2 minutes into driving, and it clears when I restart the car. It doesn’t happen every time I drive, so it’s been easy to ignore and the dealer wasn’t able to reproduce until recently. My car doesn’t even have 25k miles and is regularly serviced by Porsche, so I was astounded when they said it would cost $6,500+ to replace the valve body and there’s a chance that after they do this the entire transmission will need to be replaced (as they may discover metal shavings?). This is my first Porsche and may be my last based on seeing this seems to be a common problem and they aren’t doing anything to resolve it.

Has anyone made any progress and got this issue resolved/investigated further yet?

It happened to me again. There's two weeks left on the CPO so I took it in and told them to keep it until its fixed.

The SM said two other Panamera owners were reporting the same issue so they checked with corporate. They were given a three stage process to resolve the issue. The third stage is a new transmission. We're covered under the CPO.

We love the car so we extended the warranty from Porsche for another 6 years. It was around $9k but covers everything in the CPO. There's a $250 deductible per visit, but based on what I've read, it's worth it.

A nice bonus for resale.... it's transferable for $50....

Exact same scenario as described by OP. 2018 Turbo Sport Turismo. Fortunately, mine was still under warranty and they replaced the mechatronics unit about 500 miles ago. So far, so good. Agree that this seems to be a consistent failure in the 2018s.

Happened once to me. Software by Microsoft. Turn ignition off. Wait 5 seconds. Start up and error gone. I'm one year in to a 2 year CPO so maybe look into it.

Hi there, do you recall what the three steps were? I have a 2018 Turbo ST that is going to the main dealer today. I've had the PDK reset already done but in the month or so since I've had the reset, the Transmission error has appeared 3 times. Each time after the car has sat for a few days.

I believe Porsche corporate had a checklist but the SM couldn't articulate the details. I know the Master Tech checked the connections, added fluid (they did the scheduled transmission service a few miles ago,) performed a reset, updated the software, reset again, and checked the fluid and connections again.
