Default 2018 Panamera Turbo modification questions

Guys,

So I am looking to spice up my car a little bit and am struggling to find any modifications for my car. Am I missing anything? I really want an intake so I can potentially hear the turbos a little more, can't find anything. I also am thinking about an ECU tune but haven't found anyone who has a tune for my car besides the piggy back option with VRtuned. I am coming from a 2016 Audi S7 which had a ton of mod options. It just doesn't seem like people are making anything for our cars. Maybe there are some European options that I'm not aware of?

On my S7 I did have the VRtuned box for a little bit and I am tempted to try it on my Turbo...... For reference here is my VRtuned review for my S7.

If anyone has any links or thoughts for me please share.

Thanks,
Jesse

From what I heard from a Porsche dealer, the Chip in the 18 Panamera will reset itself to factory settings after a few starts. My understanding is that if you change the tune with the car will automatically reset itself to factory settings. They said this feature is delaying tuners from offering tune packages.

I came from a tuned 2016 S6, so similar. Check my message #6 here:

And these thread:

TLDR: Take a look at TMC Motorsports. PM me if any questions.

I'm running a harness from 1016 industries (very similar to VR tuned) on my 2018 sport turismo turbo. It adds power but honestly my biggest issue is with the transmission tuning in this car and adding power just magnifies the issue. If you have any interest in the harness let me know I have been thinking about removing it

I just read an interesting article about the security features GM built into the ECU on the new mid-engine Corvette. They specifically talked about how this is going to frustrate tuners but with the complexity of the computer and integrated components, they feel it is necessary. I suspect we will see a new generation of tuning programs from manufacturers that includes a review process

I agree. I think throttle tip in from a standstill or rolling stop is the biggest issue. Not that the rest of the transmission program is perfect, but that's the most glaring issue to me. And it's not even 'bad' just not what I'd ideally have.

Is the throttle lag better on the e hybrid models? Anyone compared A to B?

To me this transmission is programmed more for fuel economy than it should be, even in sport mode the car is in 4th gear at 35 miles an hour unless your foot is to the floor. It's the thing I hate the most about the car, the only way I can live with it is to paddle shift it all the time which I never had to do with my previous tuned panamera's. I understand the goal with the EPA and MPG but once you turn the dial to sport or sport plus that should go out the window.

This is been said before but it sounds like a sprint booster would solve the transmission gear lag issue as it controls the electronica throttle to be more aggressive

I have a sprint booster like device on my Macan (Pedal Commander). It really does an amazing job in throttle response. It is not a tune and doesn’t change the transmission shift points but increases pedal feel.

if anyone is in Minneapolis I’d be happy to lend mine out for a trial since I am in the market for a Panny and want to see if this helps any. It’s a 5 minute install.

These are universal parts, not vehicle specific.

Dang I’m in the NY area and would love to try it on mine. If I do any cross country road trips I’ll let you know

The idea I think is to lock tuners out, not help them get in. It's hard to avoid taking on some liability if they sign off on tuners playing in the programming and if that programming effects any of the engine operating parameters they cant sign off on it without certifying it with the EPA. Don't even want to try a guess at what the aftermarket may come up with, some smart people out there. It does look like they are serious about walling it off though and of course this isn't because of complexity, it's because they want to do it to reduce warranty costs. The complexity thing just sounded better when it came time to decide what spin to put on it.

I did a comparison of the 2018 4S to the E-Hybrid and the difference was noticeable. There is absolutely no lag whatsoever with the E-Hybrid as the electric motors response is instantaneous. I did notice lag with the 4S and that turned me off to that model.
